I've had this tingling when my right arm is in certain positions for several days now. It started out as some mild pain and the tingling, but after a couple of days, it's just tingling now. It goes from my elbow down into my hand and in my middle and index fingers and thumb (the latter two especially). I'm thinking it's a pinched nerve (I have a doctor's appointment Thursday, but I wish I could have gotten in sooner), but my sister got me worked up by saying it could be a condition associated with diabetes. I just had blood work done a couple of months ago, and everything was fine. Could this be the first sign, or something? Am I worrying over nothing? It's very uncomfortable. I have to sleep in abnormal positions, but I've noticed, when I awaken, it's not too bad. Once I've gotten awake and into my normal day, it starts really acting up.
I eat way too much sugar, but I have just started with cutting out much of it. For instance, I want so bad to go to the Godiva store and get more chocolate, but I'm being good and not doing that. I've been trying to eat blueberries, which started out great, but the last batches (at least by one company) haven't been too good. Not only were they not that sweet, they left something in my mouth...chewed-up stems, perhaps? Seeds? It gets between my gums and my cheeks. Just icky. I was doing good with the blueberries for the first week there. Now they're just unpleasant (the company is Dandrea, FYI). Maybe I need to go to a different store and get a different brand, if possible. I just need someone to hug me or tell me something that'll calm my fears, basically. Thanks!

You should go to the doctor and get that checked. You described the area affected when carpal tunnel or some other condition causes a nerve to be pinched. I don't know how much diabetes might be involved, bur I understand that diabetes can also affect nerves. The sooner you start treatment (could be anything from a brace to medication to surgery to release the nerve from being pinched), the better your chances for recovery. I had symptoms like that once that did go away after a year with no surgery.

It doesn't sound like diabetes to me, really. Of course, I'm not a doctor. So, here is some info on the early warning signs...
Diabetes symptoms: When diabetes symptoms are a concern - MayoClinic.com The diabetes affects nerve endings and works from there. So, from toes on up to knee or from the fingers up through hand, wrist and to the elbow. And so forth. Gentle hugs to you! ![]()

No, I wouldn't worry about it being neuropathy caused by diabetes. You'd need to be diagnosed with diabetes first. And then it would take a long time for any nerve damage to occur.
It could be a pinched nerve but it really sounds like anxiety/stress. You really seem very stressed out. Try to relax. |

Thanks! I doubt it's diabetes, but my sister got me a little concerned. I see the doctor tomorrow, so hopefully she can tell me right away what the problem is and how to treat it. I'm really sick of it...can't be in certain positions, rest my left arm on my table (the right arm starts tingling), can't sleep in normal positions...agh! And the very tip of my index finger and thumb are slightly numb.
