I feel like I should know but I don't.

Monday I Was hit with the first symptoms of a flu. Tuesday I had fevers that broke. Which comes to now.

I still feel really funny in my head like I'm on something.. Sorry that maybe a bad reference, but I don't feel all ''here''. Bit confused at times, I'm really congested in my head, fish bowel effect

the only over the counter med I'm taking is just cough surpresant (sp?).and that just for sleeping or trying to sleep. I have some cough drops too. Really am pushing the water and fluids. Haven't been hungry much but did try to eat some soup the other day. Tuesday I took off, afraid Wednesday I'll have to take off too (don't get paid sick days, so it sucks)

My concern really is my chest.
My chest hurts so bad too. I have asthma. and shamefully am a smoker. i haven't been smoking since yesterday and on Monday I didn't smoke much. I keep coughing but it's, not productive.
I'm always one to get bronchitis about every year.... I know I need to stop smoking but it's so hard for me.
But I wonder

Is it ok to call and ask for a doctors appointment or is it to soon? I don't want to get any one sick.

I kept having bloody noses yesterday too which surprised me. I haven't had the flu in a while but i never remember bloody noses with the flu.
one was really bad but it did stop. That's the only time I've vomit so far with this cold or flu, was because of a bloody nose.

I know I was reading some articles and they said if chest pains go see doctor. I'm not quite sure what they mean by chest pain.
For me;
It hurts to breath and I feel like death is about to take over if I breath cold air in.
Is that the type of chest pain they mean or more like a heart attack chest pain?

Blah I know go see doctor but when is it ok, is it too soon?

beauflow, it's better to get this assessed now, so go see a doctor. If you worry about spreading it, wear a mask that fits over your face or improvise one. Take care.

Even my supervisor said go see a doctor when I called to let her know I wasn't coming today.
My doctor will be back Thursday per the scheduling lady so I have an appointment set. I don't want to really see a different doctor, sorry I'm so picky.

I feel like a big baby... I still don't feel good, I hope I don't have to take another day off though.....but I don't know.

Sorry I question ''when to go'', I just don't know I guess.

That's the kind of chest pains they mean when they talk about flu, if it hurts to breathe, or if you can hear yourself breathing. Usually you don't make noise, having air go in and out of your lungs! That's how I know I'm sick. And like you say, it's this weird altered state of awareness, like you can't think of anything else. Stay warm. Something warm on your chest helps. That wasn't a priority when I was a kid, I forget to do it now.

Call and tell them what you are experiencing, and let them decide if you should go out or if they think you should come to the office.

I had to go to a doctor - walk in clinic - when I had the flu because work demanded me to do that. They were okay with it, especially since my fever had been gone for a day. They did a flu test but they said I was too far along the recovery process for it to really work, so they weren't surprised when it came back negative. The doctor said by my description of my symptoms of fever, headache, eyes ached, no appetite, etc. that it probably was the flu. They gave me an antibiotic. I think this flu settles quickly into bronchitis. Anyway, the antibiotic seemed to help.

My symptoms began very early Sunday and I felt sick even after the fever went away. I took it easy for a week.

I hope you will consider calling your doctor. There might be something that can help you feel better sooner.

When you put it that way Hankster it makes more sense. I am usually wheezy but the hurting to breath is unusual....

ECHOS, that is a good idea to let them decide, when I Called Wednesday the appointment lady wanted me to schedule for Wednesday but my doctor was not in (I have a little problem with seeing other people some times) so I went today.

My doctor told me i have a really bad cold that it is almost like the flu but not as bad as the flu. Guess it is something that lasts 21.9 days (or was it 29.1 days?) per a study someone was doing.

She mentioned the noise bleeds are common with colds, not the flu. She listened to the bottom of my lungs more than the top and said those sound clear; which is good
She suggested to get some Claritin-d to help with some congestion and to keep with rest and liquids. She gave me a note to take off tonight too, but only if i want to. She does not think I am contagious at the moment but still to take an easy.

There is a catch though, if I don't feel much better or if my lungs still hurt on Monday she wants me back in so I can get checked out again.

I just am confused because i had a fever of 101 the other day, and all the symptoms of the flu but it is not, it is a cold.... When I made the comment, i hate to take days off for just colds, she reiterated that "it is a really bad cold".

but I am glad that my lungs sound clear to her.... but i feel like a big baby too... geez

I'm glad you were able to get in to the doctor. You are not a big baby! You are sick, and you are not feeling well, no matter what the diagnosis is. I still suspect you had the flu, but like me you are not recovering and are at the point where it seems like a cold.
I know we have become used to saying, "Oh it's just a cold." As if we should be able to just ignore it and keep on doing what we normally do. But having a cold is being sick and it is a time to rest and take good care of you.

That's a good idea to keep treating the congestion. That part really hangs on - 2 weeks later I am still coughing. My co-worker too.

Hey beau - I hate when they tell you you're not sick enough, come back later. Like you can just magically reappear, no problem. I give them an earful about how hard it is for me to get to their office the first time. A second visit is not likely. I have to rent a car, or just riding the bus, if I'm sicker, is goIng to be harder. I couldn't afford to lose work. I'm sorry, I'm getting all worked up here!! I hope you're doing better!

Flu

I went to see the nurse two weeks ago

A week has passed, I’ve taken the drops
My ears are just slightly beginning to pop
The nurse comes back to look at me
You still have a nasty cough I see

Take another course of these pills
Stay in the warm and drink plenty of water
If anything’s going to cure you these surely ought’er
I take the pills, I stay in bed
I try to nurse my thumping head
I’m coughing and coughing and the gunk keeps flowing
I’m hot, I’m cold and my nose is glowing
I finally think I’m going in sane
When the pills run out again
The nurse comes back and looks quite worried
She gets on the phone in quite a hurry
I need an ambulance to come right away
I listen in and hear her say
We need to pack a bag for you
You’re going to hospital ‘cos you’ve got flu!

((Hankster)) Yeah, I probably wont go in Monday, I think I am still at the 'cold' stage but that is ok with me. Colds go away and not much to do but fluids and some pills for symptoms; but it is annoying when they are like come back when your sicker.
But it is ok, I was sort of ok with her telling me not contagious any more, that way my Supervisor if she asked would know that it would be ok for me to be at work.

Though last Thursday i felt so drained that I went home early, Friday i did a full day but i think mainly due to not much was going on at work.

I only have had a few co-workers with sniffles and not feeling well but it is ok.

I don't know, if that was just a cold and not the flu that i had, i really don't want the flu then... cuz whatever it was, i felt awful.

Damn viruses any ways.... whether cold or flu, that is what they are, and antibiotics don't help rid of viruses .... this all some what reminded me how fragile humans can be (ya know?)....

But guess lesson learned, i guess for me, with be sure to get flu shots and to take some more vitamins regularly.

I have winter cold, two strains flu--have not smoked since 1991--asthma meds aren't working. I'm sick. Don't mess with this!! I'm getting schwabs, X-ray, and I'm having chest pain when I try to get air. At times I fear a heart attack.
I'm not a drama queen, there's just too much and they don't have any answers yet..

It could have been or is pluersy which is very bad to have and dangerous, not to scare you but just so you keep up with the doctors orders and see him again

No, the flu is not something to mess with, and even colds.
I know my S/O brought up a good point too on this, Similar to what ECHOS was saying,
but the common cold has been around for ever and with that and the flu has been known to be quiet deadly to human kind


as for the silly Beauflow
My doctor said:

I feel now that I have a cold and is just congestion...My lungs and chest have not hurt like they did last week again so far, so I don't think seeing my doc will do good unless I want to go talk about something else..which as always, "get cleared up before we start on anything else"
But will be sure to keep up on fluids and keep warm still....
