I took my took my Dad to the hospital yesterday because he was lightheaded and felt nauseated. In this heat, we were both thinking sun/heat stroke. On the way there, it went from bad to worse, he couldn't move his arm, then he became incoherent, then he had a seizure, and all within a 8 minute trip to the hospital. By the time we got there he was barely responding, slurred speech, and did not know who I was. The CAT scan showed a mass in the parietal region of his brain, 3.5 inches in diameter, that they are suspecting at this point is a meningioma and non-cancerous, hopefully, so hopefully. But he was admitted for more tests and to get him leveled out on anti-seizure meds. He was alert, fully responsive, regained his muscle tension, and processes when I left last night but they said it can act like a time bomb in his head. Something has to be done really soon as soon as they narrow down what it is by today.
Meanwhile, they asked if we had a neurosurgeon? Uh, no. Asked for recommendations meanwhile and got someone on call in the interim, whom they keep telling us is really good. How do I know this and how can I find out? Or how can I research neurosurgeons in our area? I am trying really hard not to freak out here as my Dad is my best friend and my rock. Seeing him in this state is tearing me apart. Amazingly he keeps saying, S**t happens, bless his heart for his attitude. I want to get him get him whatever he needs. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your replies.

I would look up the ratings for the hospitals in your area and find the one that is best for neurosurgery Hospital Ratings By State -Consumer Reports Health and then call their neurosurgery department and get recommendations.
You could also look up the recommended doctor: http://www.healthgrades.com/ and see how other patients of his rated him. But you could also ask these questions and see whose answers you like best: http://www.ebtcommunity.org/Resource...rosurgeon.aspx
