My wife has a steroidal cream that helps bring down the swelling and get rid of the itchies.

We've also done aloe to help with the itching and baking soda mixture for the welts.

I have a Benedryl Gel, can get that OTC. Used to use it for the Copaxone Lumps and Itches...The gel works.

I wish I'd known about those remedies although the welts and itching from the mosquitoes don't last long. I keep some OFF! in my truck now.
The bites/stings from the fire ants on the other hand sometimes leave scars and the ants aren't at all bothered by insect repellant.

mozzie bites are alcali, vinegar is acid, acid neutralises alcali. stings like h for a few minutes but then works a treat.
avoid mozzie bites by spraying yourself with fly killer before you go out. cheaper than repellents and just as effective.

On all my insect bites including, stings, & poison ivy, oak, & stinging nettle, I just throw some water on the dirt & make mud which I end up packing on top of the bite, sting, or rash........leave it there 30-60 minutes & the itch is usually much better if not gone......usually any rash on any of the poison bushed is all gone within about 30 minutes......learned that from my grandfather when I was a little kid fishing in the Kansas creeks with him......I always ended up in the stinging nettle because I didn't know what it looked like.....it was such a miracle, I used it on my daughter when we were out backpacking in the sierra's in California & she got into the poison oak.

Only but bite it really doesn't seem to work well on are chiggar's....but nothing seems to work on their bite & they just itch like hell.....only bug bite I can say really drives me crazy & won't let up the itching is that of the chiggar.....one summer after moving here, I ended up with over 100 chiggar bites & I actually got sick from so many bites.

I try to never go outside in the summer without at least a shirt over my normal top.....& wear long socks, long pants & then shorter socks over that & my rubber boots which I spray all over myself with off or some equivalent. Shoot, I even close my eyes, take a deep breath & then I spray the insect repellane & run into where I sprayed it.......I am a funny sight working out in my yard.....but at least I'm bug proof & for me that's all that matters

Juice a cucumber to use as a mozzie repellant. Be interesting to also try it on your skin to reduce the welts.
