Happy Sunday ,
I had my TVH performed on September 11th. I wanted to stop by and give a candid update on the procedure. It is my hope that this information serves as a resource for those who may be undergoing a TVH soon or live with Adenomyosis. Please understand your healing , recovery will take time. Do not be dismayed if you're not feeling yourself immediately. Do not be surprised if you feel frustrated if you have to TAKE IT EASY. Best thing you can do for your body after this procedure.. Follow every medical directive to the letter. Most importantly REST. Allowing your body to adequately rest is allowing your body an opportunity to heal, restore itself. My first 2 days home. I truly do not recall anything. I will literally sedated to the point those 2 days are a blank after the procedure. Due to me having the procedure at a military facility, I did not have a hospital stay. The only time I got out of bed was to go to the rest room. My bladder is different since the procedure. When I have to go. I have to hurry up and go. It also feels like my bladder hold more liquid. But when I have to go, I literally have to take off running. I had very little appetite. So I did a lot of soups, broth, and beverages. Juice, water. No soda or anything. I didn't feel any pain on my actual vagina. However when I did take a mirror to look at it around day 5 I was SHOCKED by what I saw. Swelling, a HUGE gash/cut on my left labia majora, closely shaved bald, and the actual vaginal coloring. My pain came from my abdomen. It is deep, throbbing at times, sometimes the pain redistribute itself to my sides at times. It feel similar to an ovarian cyst. Walking around, moving is your best friend. Do not simply lay in bed. Walk around the house, sit upright as much as your body can bear. Please have some good stool softeners such as Miralax something you can mix into your beverages (not a laxative) at home after the procedure. To ensure you stay regular. having consistent bowel movements that are not too firm, diarrhea like is the goal. If the bowls are too firm it will cause you to have to strain and push and it will hurt where you had your procedure like nobody's business. If you have diarrhea, the constant bowl contracting will cause you pain in the area you had your procedure. Keep down there clean. No baths. Showers. However, carefully clean the folds of your vagina consistently to decrease the chance of infection. You may want to use unscented baby wipes. Also you may want to wear panty liners for a few days afterwards. You do spot a little bit. Immediate hormonal changes show up in various ways. For me it is severe skin dryness on my feet, labia majora, and legs. Invest in moisturizer. Ask your physician what would be safest on your vagina. This dryness is not internal. I mean on the outside of your vagina. The doozy, unexpected part of healing. You are aroused like never before. However, my physician requires 8 weeks of no intercourse. But all the dryness, etc the Adenomyosis, endometriosis caused it gone. So once you begin to move around a bit. In your day to day life you will notice your spark is back with a vengeance. There will take some time to get your hormones under control and balanced, you will work with your GYN about that part. It would be wise to write a symptom journal each day. That way you are tracking your progress, healing. And have something to review with your GYN. Or you will be all over the place during your appointment and may forget an important question about your healing process and needs. DO NOT DISOBEY PHYSICIAN ORDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU NEED TO TAKE YOUR TIME BEFORE REALLY GOING BACK INTO YOUR NORMAL ROUTINE. DO NOT IGNORE HIS/HER DIRECTIVES. If you have any questions, please feel free to inbox me. I pray your procedure leads to wellness, a new life that is pain and symptom free. Many Blessings!

Hi there,
Thanks for your response. TVH is Total Vaginal Hysterectomy. It is a surgical procedure whereas there isn't an abdominal incision. Instead the surgeon remove the uterus & cervix through the vagina. (In some instances the ovaries also) |

No problem. Yes it is major. I take it a day at a time. I had promised to keep everyone abreast during my down time. I am finally able to do it unfortunately it's almost 2 weeks later. Thanks so much for your well wishes. .

I saw one done on tv once when they had the surgery channel. Holy moly. They should give you a medal for undergoing that.

My sister who thinks she is superwoman went hiking with her 56 cubscouts in the mountains 2 days after her robotic hysterectomy. She tore out some stitches. Her Dr asked her if she was insane. She
pretty much does what she wants despite sickness or pain or anything. Still trying to figure out if that id a good or bad thing. I mean , on one hand i'm impressed. On the other i want to call her an idiot . Anyhow don't be like my sister.stay safe. No skydiving yet. K.
