Today I woke up, took my diet pills (which are like half a dozen big-*** capsules and it tastes friggin nasty so I had to try and not puke them up), had a cup of coffee, started listening to music.
All of a sudden, out of nowhere, my whole body gets really hot/burning and tingly. My clothes were very itchy and scratchy on me. I got really light headed and nauseous. I went into the bathroom and saw that my face was red and when I lifted up my shirt my arms and stomach was bright pink and hot to the touch. I laid on the bed until I had to go to work. At work, I wasn't feeling hot anymore but I was sick to my stomach and asked to leave home early. By the time I left, I was feeling normal again. I feel absolutely fine now. I don't know what caused this. Sometimes I feel sick to my stomach in the morning but never the way I felt today. I have no allergies, but the only thing different is the fact that I've been taking diet pills for the past four days but why would I suddenly have a reaction four days after? And why would it go away if I was allergic to it? ??? |

I don't know, DrSkipper. I encourage you to talk to a doctor about these diet pills and this reaction.

sounds very much like a reaction. did you have anything different that morning, night before? new soap? detergent?
Could be this: The adverse reactions to drugs are common. Almost any drug can cause an adverse reaction. Reactions range from irritating or mild side effects such as nausea and vomiting to life-threatening anaphylaxis--sp? A true drug allergy is caused by a series of chemical steps in the body that produce the reaction to a medication. The first time you take the medicine, you may have no problems. However, your body's immune system may produce a substance (antibody) called IgE against that drug. The next time you take the drug, the IgE tells your white blood cells to make a chemical called histamine, which causes your allergy symptoms. A drug allergy may also occur without your body producing IgE. Instead, it might produce other types of antibodies, or have other reactions that do not produce antibodies. Most drug allergies cause minor skin rashes and hives. Serum sickness is a delayed type of drug allergy that occus a week or more after you are exposed to a med or vaccines. ~~some technical info from a medplus site I have heard it said you can become allergic to just about anything - at anytime - no rhyme or reason. It.just.happens. I wonder if medical pros will downplay meds as the cause, due to reaction not happening within a split second. I mean come on, unless the reaction is in the mouth like as with a peanut allergy, who knows how long it could take? With all the unknown ingredients in all meds today, it's a wonder anyone can take them.Hope you feel better and get some answers quick. |

Usual diet pills? Most, if not all contain caffeine, plus you drank coffee, with no food(?) WHat do the directions say? In the morning you have an empty stomach, the cafffine went right to your bloodstream, causing the vessels to become 'bigger' and blood flow increases, causing more blood to 'show red' on your skin's surface, it also makes you feel hot and sick

I went through a phase of taking diet pills and quit as well. You're right it doesn't really help, at least not enough to notice, its jsut a burst of energy but if I don't get up to jog it wouldn't do anything. It made me lose the initial water weight, but any diuretic would have worked the same

Diet pills are just a big no. I've had this happen to a couple of friends of mine who were also on them. I hope you're feeling better, please take care.
