My neck's sore. It's like, ... the head but the neck.. sorta.. part of the head that's super close to the neck... I think it's muscular from something or other... hurt to touch it... tried messaging it but that hurts and I don't wanna make it worse. Any ideas what it is? Sounds normal? I get super paranoid about this ****. I workout regularly, and that often means I do "shrugs", which is basically an exercise that works the neck muscles; you basically shrug with weights... 'bout it.. anyway, that maybe could've caused this? But it's only on one side.. other side is A-OK, ... I suppose one could be more knackered than the other... then again, it's on the head, not the actual neck that usually gets worked out.. on the other hand... I do feel that part tense up somewhat when I do lots of shrugs... agh... IDK... I'm probably just being stupid. I've sort of had this before, but I've never tried massaging that place on my head/neck, ... doing that, and the pain/ache it caused has made me paranoid/worried.

So, ... I have health anxiety and OCD, just so you know.

EDIT:

Sorry, scratch that.. I was being an idiot. It's just that I've strained myself from all the shrugs. xD My step-mother just lectured me. Love having that woman around; like my own personal trainer, without the nagging.

my anxiety causes my neck muscles to get really tight and sore so much that it feels like whip lash. I got a membership to a spa for monthly massages in hopes that it would help me relax. I hate going cause it makes me feel vulnerable and cant wait for my membership to be up but it has helped after the first couple of months. take care..

Do you feel a lump? That would be a swollen lymph node, indicating like an infection on that side - usually not a HUGE deal. Or sometimes i get a sore neck from carrying something heavy on one side, or if my backpack is really heavy and i just put it on one shoulder. Are you putting ice and or heat on it?
Thanks for this!

Hi,
I have a rice and lavender filled thing that I put in the oven/microwave. It is shaped kinda like football padding in that it is long and square in the back and then hangs down on each side in the front...kinda U shaped. It basically covers all neck and shoulder muscles and those connected to the back of your head. I would look for one online. It was a gift, or I would send you the link. This helps me a lot. I have constant headaches with the accompanying pain you describe for weeks on end.

Thanks for the replies (and hugs/thanks) guys; appreciated.

As I edited, it's OK, as I know what it is, now. I was just tired and being "healthy anxiety" about it. It's a little better today, even after today's brutal cardio exercises; I just made sure to ease up on the neck as much as I could. I won't be doing shrugs for a few more days, ... might try mid-way next week. I swear, I'm gonna be a mess by the time I start day 2 of my volunteer job on Monday. xD

Oh, and nope, no lump that I can feel, thankfully. I've not used ice on it, either, but I'll keep that in mind the next time this happens, when it's really sore.
