We get stressed from a hormone called cortisol, is released from our adrenal gland, and it is designed to help us during emergency situations.

however chronic stress leads to closely raised levels of this hormone, this is bad news because, it's being associated with increased weight gain particularly around the waist, it seems that the cells there, are more sensitive to the fat promoting activity of cortisol.

The other thing also seems do, is increase our appetite for sweet things and carbohydrates, this is also bad news because it actually can increase the likelihood of insulin resistance, which is also associated with increased weight gain around waist.

So any weight loss strategy, really does have to consider cortisol modification, basically, how are we going to reduce cortisol levels ?

HELP WITH CORTISOL REDUCTION !
If you want to reduce The hormone cortisol output, it's essential that you reduce the stress in your life.

This is NOT always possible, so you might want to practice some kind of relaxation or meditation technique and they useful, but I'm interested in telling you about what you can do from the nutritional perspective.

What kind of diet modifications can you make? what type of supplements can you take? that will help you Reduce your cortisone levels.

One of the important factors to consider, when the diet is considered, is blood sugar balance.

When your sugar levels of all over the place, It come into an excessive cortisol release, so you looking to perhaps reducing carbohydrate intake, or look at the quality of the carbohydrate you eat, you can do this by researching the GI and GL indexes which you can find online, and they gauge the quality of carbohydrate you take "they do it by a number", A LOWER number generally the BETTER.

The other thing you must do, is eliminate sugar and or refined sugar, they will have a profound effect on blood sugar balance, and you should really get rid of them from your diet.

Hope this helps you !

I guess I'm lucky that way - the more stress I'm under, the less I want to eat. When I was in my full-blown crisis 2 years ago, I ate maybe 400-600 calories per day, and puked up at least half of that in the panic attacks.

I see the cortisol belly and the glassy eyed sugar-fat sedation look on an awful lot of people around town. It frightens me.

That look describes most of the American population. Land of the Fat and Home of Overconsumption. A true national crisis in the making. Time had a great article 3-4 weeks ago about how wrong the USDA was to target dietary fat as the source of our obesity and disease epidemic, back in the 1980s. No butter, but let's all slurp down HFCS by the gallon.

Stress seems to contribute to me having trouble eating enough, and I've ended up getting a bit too underweight a few times from not being able to eat enough due to too much stress....so its intresting stress would cause weight gain.

We lose our ability to digest food when we are stressed. Some of us lose our appetites and endure hunger and carry on, eating protein and fat when we can. But some of us over feed on easy to digest sugary fats.

Some of the difference is economic and educational. Protein and good quality fat are more expensive than baked goods. Clean food is more expensive than toxic food. Its not easy to eat clean protein and good quality oil on an austerity budget. You can do it but you have to have willpower and tolerance for a little actual hunger. And you have to be able to cook.

Since i set up my traumatic reenactment ive been slimming the right way, pretty much because I was afraid starvation would throw me into detox so i cleaned up my diet. I'm not much lighter but I'm firmer and curvier at the waist and my clothes are loose. My freakouts have been related to pms and eating toXic food. The bottom line is If you want to save your life you have to be strong.

Muslims know what they are doing when they keep Ramadan.

I was raised by Islamicate culture boyfriends. And an Israeli. I have a strong personality and I've never been very fond of the submissively smiling western woman shtick. Muslim men like women with presence. Post adolescent trauma also scared me off white men and predisposed me to feel safe around foreign born Muslims. So I'm a cultural WASP and a humanist/atheist but I've internalized a lot of what is right and good about Islamic mores. . Since think about it, I learned how to live with PTSD from Muslims. And an Israeli. They taught me a lot.

This has nothing to do with PTSD, pretty off-topic, but I came around a corner on a side street last night, and was very surprised to see a big, very new-looking (very fresh asphalt, landscaping any way) mosque with golden-domed spires. Cars were pouring in, and a couple of men in traditional middle-Eastern dress were directing traffic. It didn't surprise me to see a mosque in the Detroit area, we have the largest Muslim/Middle Eastern population in the US, just that it was in a residential neighborhood a couple of blocks off a primary road.

Anyone wishing to know why American Muslims have PTSD can check out CSU sociologist Lori Peeks well researched book about the backlash against American Muslims since 2001.

I live among Muslims and I have to say it really invites to healthier eating!!!

Otherwise... when I'm stressed I can't eat. I just feel like I would vomit if I tried. It doesn't result in any weight loss so maybe the stress in itself causes weight to stick to you...
