Have you had this before and how long did it take to heal?

It's been a week, symptoms started getting worse on Thursday, went to the doc on Friday, prescribed medicine. Its very painful for me to eat and drink water. And I really can't put up with the pain because it is that severe... I'm getting anxious about this because I haven't been eating or drinking water much this week. How long does esophagitis last? Should I go to the hospital if it doesnt get better in a few days? The pain is worse on the right side of my upper back, after I swallow I get an intense burning sensation there which puts me off eating and drinking water.

Thank you.

If the medication isnt working for the issue i would return to your doctor. There are also many over the counter antacids that you could try to calm the symptoms. Also, try naproxen or motrin. Both are anti inflammatories that also may calm the symptoms.
