My husband just had a major heart attack and had to have two stents put in. His recovery seems to be really slow. Is that normal?

When he first came home after the heart attack in which they did the first stent he seemed to bounce back fairly well, however, after they put in the second stent he has no energy and spends most of his time sleeping. The doctor said it would be a long time before he was back to normal but this just seems a little too extreme.

I was just wondering if some of you might have experienced a heart attack and could share your experience with recovery.

Hi, gayle. I am sorry to hear about your husband. I hope he feels better soon. Have you considered that he might be depressed? Depression is fairly common after heart attacks.
Thanks for this!

Is he newly on blood pressure meds? It takes a while to get used to them. I remember being sleepy and dizzy a lot at first. There is also the mental factor. Having a heart attack is a shock and the realization that you can't eat like you used to and having to modify other things takes a toll. I hope he feels better soon. Once he's over the shock, hopefully he will realize he has a new lease on life.

There could be some depression. I know he feels a lot of boredom. And they did add several new medications that may be affecting him.

Thanks for the suggestions. He was just so active before so I'm having to adjust to the change, too and my mood hasn't been the best lately either. I guess it will just take time.
