I had gastric bypass almost two years ago and am now at a normal BMI... but my anxiety and depression remain. I thought my life would get so much better, and in some ways it has, but I have new problems now. They warned me about this- not to use it as a bandaid or expect life to change too drastically... has anyone else been through this?

I've wanted to look into it but even with insurance, a certain amount I would have to pay out of pocket. Someone at work went through it and I admire her greatly for what she has been through. I worry that I'd be the person drinking sweet stuff and just gaining it back.

I have watched countless programs (real life stories) on people that have had gastric bypass. I would desperately love to have this operation. But I will not be classed as overweight enough. And will never have the many thousands that it will cost in South Africa where not even medical insurances would cover it because they consider it cosmetic.

That's horrible that insurance is something for the wealthy.
I also just need to loose about 50 lbs so I don't believe I would be a good candidate even though I have had many great efforts for long periods only to slip back to my new 'norm'. It's frustrating to say the least. |
