I was recently diagnosed with Colitis. I just wanted to provide a tip here to anyone suffering from digestive issues.
For about 5 months following my first "flareup", I have had a lot of trouble finding foods that wouldn't hurt me. It's been very experimental. My doctors do not like to talk about nutrition - I don't if it's a liability thing or what? Anyway, to get to the point: I've since learned the difference between soluble fibers and insoluble fibers. Soluble fibers dissolve in water, insoluble fibers do not. I noticed a correlation - many food that were making me sick: green vegetables, certain fruits, certain nuts - had a very high content of insoluble fibers. Since then, I have been starting my day with soluble fibrous foods. If I have enough soluble fiber in my system, I can later tolerate small quantities of foods with a higher content of insoluble fibers. The trick for me is to have more soluble fiber in my body than insoluble fiber and I have to eat the soluble fibrous food first. (With my condition, I still need medicine, but this dietary change has helped me a lot)

What foods carry soluble fiber? I have extreme IBS-D. I'm constantly having to practically starve myself if I have to go somewhere for an extended period of time, like to work for example.
What foods keep you feeling good? I was on medication but they think it might have caused seizures. So I'm utterly miserable for now. Sent from my iPhone 6s using Tapatalk.

This is a Really good list: LINK: How Soluble Fiber Helps IBS, and Why Soluble Fiber Foods are the best! I JUST found this yesterday and it's pretty much reinforcing everything I posted. I've been actually working off of other lists and each one has something a little iffy in it - at least for me. All the foods she lists in the link provided though really seem like a good starting point. I've had no problems whatsoever with those foods. It's real tough because everyone with IBD/IBS seems to have different triggers from person to person. I hope you find some relief real soon.
