I have had a lump in the ball of my right foot for close to two years. I finally got to see a podiatrist a few months ago. Initially, he put a metatarsal pad in my shoe. That didn't help much. Then he tried a diagnostic injection of two anesthesia agents and it didn't seem to tell him much. A bit after this, I started getting a lump in my left foot as well. At this time I told him I occasionally get numbness or shooting pain in my toes. I always assumed it was caused by my anxiety issues. He keyed in on this and prescribed gabapentin for it and ordered a pair of orthodic inserts.
I had my last appointment with him as he kicked my care back to my pcp after saying I should stay on the meds and keep using the inserts. I have worn the inserts for about month now and have had zero improvement. There is literally no difference in my feet between the original insert and the orthotics. I didn't really care about the peripheral neuropathy as I am in pain somewhere on my body nearly constantly and this added pain is insignificant compared to my other pains, but that is all he seems to care about. I really need to get rid the lumpy feeling, it is doing my MH issues no favors. Last night I was seriously considering taking a hacksaw to my feet. Luckily, the compulsion wasn't strong enough for me to actually try it. He did mention surgery to remove the inflamed nerve, but said it would leave a permanent numbness to my toes and there is no guarantee that another nerve in my foot wouldn't end up causing lumpiness. That seemed like an extreme solution since the lumpiness rarely hurts. Is there an inexpensive home remedy? I have a foot roller that I use daily even though it doesn't help. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
