For the last while, my hands, particularly my right hand is very painful. Not particularly at the joints, just the whole of the hand really. I wake up with incredible pins and needles, rendering the hand useless for a while. It was going away but now once the pins and needles passes, the ache remains. I've googled arthritis but the joints are not swollen and there is no redness. I've bought anti-inflammatories and an arnica ice gel to rub in but these have had little effect. Besides, I can't keep guzzling tablets.

I can't afford to see a doctor right now. At least not until Amy's vet bill is paid off.

But the bother ......

What are you doing when this happens? Could it be carpal tunnel?
Thanks for this!

I doubt it's carpel tunnel as my wrists are fine. It is worst when I wake up in the morning but is lingering the whole day now. I'm finding it hard to open bottles too.

Pins and needles would be from nerve involvement, which could be from a swollen or overused muscle/tendon compressing your radial nerve. It could also be back-related... From your brachial plexus off of your spine. Have you hurt your back recently? Just sounds like a nerve being compressed from somewhere.

Is there no improvement at all with the anti-inflammatories? Is there any position you can rest your hand or arm in that decreases the pain/pins and needles? It could be how you are sleeping at night if it's worst in the morning.
Thanks for this!

I have what you are describing. For me it is nerve damage due to a back injury. I use to stand and it was my feet which was neuropathy. Ask the dr. to check these things out... tc and blessings

Relating to the back could be a thing. I am overweight and have a big belly. During the night, if I have to turn, I do so with great pain to my back. I always wake with a sore back but it passes fairly quickly. I am quite certain the back pain during the night and on waking is because of my weight. Perhaps this is spreading to my hands as well. Just frustrating that it seems to last the whole day now.

How's your mattress, giving good support? Sleeping in a valley can irritate the back.

I have pain and tingling in my hands, sometimes numbness too, but also my arm at times, my right arm in particular. I took a fall two months ago where I strained my neck and injured my shoulder. It is especially worse in the mornings after sleeping making the arm and hand. essentially useless. The ER doc thought it was inflammation pressing on the nerves. It has not gone away and is getting worse so my GP has referred me to a back and spine neurolologist that I see in a coupe of weeks. I am anxious to hear what they think as it is painful and frustrating.

I have good support on my mattress. I have even tried adjusting/getting different pillows per the doc so they are not so lofty to level out my neck. I cannot sleep on my sides anymore. It definitely makes it worse.

The doc lectured me about not coming to see him sooner and putting this off. I would recommend seeing someone about this and getting help so as not to make it worse. I hope you find what works to help. Sending the gentlest of hugs with my working arm and healing thoughts.

Try to not hyper extend your wrists either way while sleeping. You can get hand braces to help with this or use pillows to prop them and keep them straight. Your tingling and numbness can be caused my many things, but if it's the carpal nerves this can help.

I've googled nerve damage and still don't get the feeling this is it. But it could be. There has been some improvement over the last few days and this morning is actually the first morning where I haven't been bothered by extreme pins and needles and numbness.

My mattress is good, about a year old. I think I am clenching my fists when sleeping.

But I plan to see a gynae as soon as Amy's vet bills are paid off and go through all my grievances to see what is hormonal and whatnot. Will mention my hands then too.

Well, gee! For the last 3 days I have had no pain or pins and needles at all. Just like that! Hope it stays that way - what a relief!

I have this too. Also in my feet. Sometimes in the legs below the knees.

I'm stumped too. My husband just mentioned it could be poor blood circulation.

Does your computer have a mouse? Try using your left middle finger (the "driving" finger ) instead of your right index finger. Or maybe you were just doing too much house cleaning and srubbing back then!
