Sounds like a strange thread topic for Health Support, eh? But you'll understand in a minute....

I've been going through a hard time in life (job loss, relationship ending, etc.). Just now I checked my mailbox and had received a card. I assumed it was from my mother since she probably guesses that I'm feeling down. I opened it and on the inside the printing of the card read "How often I think about you and smile." Before the word "about" the word "all" had been handwritten in. At the end of the printed verse it was signed "Dad."

The reason I'm posting this here is because my dad suffers from Alzheimer's disease. He can barely write at all, and of course his memory is terrible and speaking coherently is difficult for him. So those two handwritten words mean the world to me....

I had to share this with someone.

Thanks you guys. I cried and cried when I got the card, but it made me so happy. His writing's all shaky, but it's legible.

He's on some new medicines that are helping him some. I know he couldn't write anything there for a while. Alzheimer's is such a tragic disease...

Thanks for taking part in my joy from this card.

I'm so glad you posted this! Isn't it just truly wonderful! My dad was not a very verbal man and he passed away almost 7 years ago.

Two things stick in my mind that I won't forget -

My mom told me many years ago that she overheard him talking to a friend and the friend was asking if any of his kids were a "favorite". My mom heard my dad say "I don't play favorites, but if I needed to say it would be Kathi (tranquility)".

The other thing he said to me when he was dying was "I've had a good life. Your mother and four wonderful children, I have nothing to complain about".

I'm glad you brought those memories back for me. Definately rejoicing with you.

Tranquility
