I had a prophylactic laparoscopy to remove ovaries and tubes about 5 weeks ago. I was in a lot of pain post op for 2 weeks, and rested a lot, then felt better so I started doing more. Now I am feeling almost as bad as I did right after surgery. My internist thinks I did too much, too soon. This isn't what I expected; I want my life back! The surgeon said I could have some pain for up to 3 months, so I suppose it's not abnormal. It's just crummy to have felt good and now it's back to pain pills! Can anyone relate? Thanks.

Abdominal muscles take a long time to heal. It is important to give yourself that chance to heal.

I have had several laparoscopies; some days were better than others and it was easy when feeling better, as you mentioned, to overdo it. It does take some time to heal but you will get back to yourself even though some days it doesn't feel like it. Do what you need to to take good care of you right now. At one point with one surgery I kept pushing things and the pain dragged out way longer than was necessary; it was a big mistake. You really will heal sooner rather than later if you give yourself time now to take it easy.

I used to use heat and ice to help with pain, to promote healing and then I also didn't have to take as many pain pills: 2o min of heat, followed by 5-10 of ice/cool packs. 1-3 times a day. I didn't know this with the first one; the surgeon with the second one mentioned it and it made a world of difference thereafter.

Hope you are on the mend soon. Take good care of you, you'll feel better in the long run. sooner rather than later.

Thanks very much! No one mentioned heat or ice to me! A heating pad is okay to use?
Thanks for this!

A heating pad, definitely.
