I've been taking gabapentin (Neurontin) for a little over a month. While it is doing a great job helping with the musculoskeletal symptoms. The only side effect I've noticed is getting tired in the afternoon/evening. I can easily combat that by drinking some tea or soda and if I don't I fall asleep after work/dinner, but previously I had only been drinking caffeine a couple times a month. I have been sleeping more steadily at night. During this time I've also had decerase desire to get out of bed, complete household tasks, go to work and have been hearing things (someone calling my name a couple times a day or saying a sentence). I think I've been a little more focused at work (or maybe that's just coincidental).
T pointed out that some of those things could be coincidental & due to other things like stress from holidays & birthday, time change, it's dark outside, and seasonal (cold & dreary). I'm afraid that most slightly more traditional muscle relaxers will have the risk of drowsiness & mental health side effects too. I really hope that I can eventually find a way not to need gabapentin. Until that time, what are your experiences with muscle relaxers? |

Has anyone taken any muscle relaxers before? What was your experience in regard to effectiveness, side effects, and mental health?

dolphingirl,
I take Flexeril 10mg. For muscle pain or a bad headache during the day, I might take 1/2 tablet as needed. I have no side effects at this dosage. At night I might take a whole tablet as needed. The next day I feel tired, dry mouthed and a bit thick headed. I've never experienced any other side effects. Although if the pain is that severe, then it was necessary to take the medication. I try to drink a lot of water if I take this medication. Also I would normally take Flexeril with a prescription anti-inflammatory. I have never taken gabapentin on a daily basis. I am overly worried about the weight gain side effect. |
