It seems no matter how much water I drink I’m always thirsty. When I get like this I could probably chug a gallon bottle in a few minutes. I know my meds can cause dry mouth, but this is ridiculous.

Be sure to tell your doc about your thirst. A lot of meds can cause excessive thirst, but so can diabetes and other conditions. I hope it's nothing serious.

Do you drink a lot of coffee or sugary drinks? Because they can contribute to dehydration a lot.

Are you having to get up in the middle of the night to pee?
Extreme thirst and frequent urination are signs of diabetes. |

if you drink a LOT of water a day, and i mean more than 3 quarts for non-athletes, you might be washing vital minerals out of your body~! this is not a simple case of 'thirst', it is a cause for concern~

Agree it could be diabetes or something else, you need to see a doctor.

I have really bad dry mouth and I drink a lot of water. I had diabetes for a while but I lost some weight.
Do get your blood sugar checked, though, to rule out diabetes. |

I have this same problem. I agree to get blood tested just in case. I have gotten tested for diabetes, etc. because of this, and it all came back normal.
I think, in my case, it is a combination of a bunch of things: 1) sometimes I'm just thirsty because I didn't drink enough water or eat enough water-containing food that day 2) my meds make my mouth dry 3) maybe I ate too much salty food that day 4) when I'm anxious, my mouth / throat feels dry 5) I actually get anxious ABOUT being thirsty. Like, if I don't have a water bottle with me, I get worried that I'm going to to be thirsty, so I get more anxious, which makes me thirsty. edit: this thread made me thirsty. ![]() |
