So stupid me wasn't looking where I was going when I was leaving work, and forgot that the stairs ahead of me were even there. I didn't fall, thankfully, as my quick thinking had me grab onto the railing, but my ankle got pretty badly twisted. Now it's swelling up, painful as can be, starting to look nice and red (more brilliant colors are sure to follow), and I can only manage to hobble on it instead of fully walking. If I put my full weight on it, it feels very painful in a way I've never quite felt pain before. It's like something in my ankle isn't quite right, anatomically.

Right now, I took 600mg of Acetaminophen, have my leg elevated and am resting on my bed. My dad recommended the pain reliever, and getting off my ankle. I firmly decided on icing it.

If it's worse in the AM when Urgent Care opens up, I'll go and see them. I think it's a sprain, my dad doesn't even think it's that bad. Then again, my dad's side of the family has been known to severely downplay injuries and maladies, so I'm going with my gut and diagnosing myself with a sprain.

Thankfully, my ankles are rather solid and thick, so I don't think anything was broken. Just to be safe. I'll call my mom in the AM before deciding to go to Urgent Care and ask what she thinks.

Either way, I'm going to probably hobble on over to the linen closet here in a bit to grab the ace bandage in there and use that to compress my ankle.

Advil will help with inflammation and swelling...

Elevate and Ice good thinking!

Hope it’s just a sprain.

Acetomenophin (Tylenol) will help with the pain but not the inflammation (swelling). For that you need an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofin or even aspirin.

It helps to rest the ankle at first, don't walk on it, use ice and elevate for a couple of days, depending on how bad the sprain is.

Sprains are graded 1,2, and 3 depending on what happened to the ligaments. I'm missing one ligament after a grade 3 sprain, which was 3 months in a brace and physio.

Went to Urgent Care this morning as my ankle was killing me and felt very unstable and all. They took some X-Rays and found a very small fracture on the bottom of my fibula. Seeing as it's not the weight baring bone that the tibia is, they said it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. They gave me an air cast to wear and told me to make an appointment with an orthopedic specialist first thing tomorrow morning, seeing as it's a Sunday and they are closed today.

They said to keep doing what I was doing, elevate the ankle, ice it, and keep taking the Tylenol.

Oh yikes! Well maybe that can be your motivation to stop drinking soda. They say soda leaches calcium from your bones. More ice cream for you!

I broke my left fibula last June. I had to have a plate and screws put in to hold it in place while it healed. I had a $275 concert ticket to see The Moody Blues. I was in surgery on a 'Tuesday Afternoon.' The concert was later that night. Thank goodness I had bought ticket insurance. The screws are backing out and I see the surgeon next month. I'm sorry that you are hurting and I pray that you heal quickly!

Thanks guys. I'm hoping it won't resort to surgery. We'll see.

No sugary needed, just a brace and a bit of restricted activity.
