Anyone have any idea or statistic to what degree the pill in my case ortho novum is effective when used religiously? Haven't been using condoms because my boyfriend can't keep it up and falls out of the condoms; we're both clean so we don't bother with that.

If I remember correctly, it is supposed to be 99% effective. That sounds great, till you end up in the 1%, like I did. Birth Control Make sure if you are taking antibiotics for anything that you use another method as well, because antibiotics wipe out the effects of bcp. In addition to a kid (who I love dearly, but hadn't bargained for initially), I ended up with a blood clot in my lung because of the pill. That's also in the 1% category. I'm just lucky that way. Birth Control But 1% of the millions who take the pill is a LOT of women!

that sounds right - about 99% effective. Condoms have a higher failure rate than the pill.
have you investigated some of the implants? they are 99.99% effective and you don't have to remember to take it or worry about having stomach/bowel probs and not absorbing it.

I have a 20 year old while on the pill. I did however have a sinus infection and needed antibiotics, which they did not tell you counteracted the pill at that time. But used effectively (same time every day) it is supposed to work very well.

Yes, I got Depo shots for awhile when I had literally months and months of unstoppable bleeding. (Period came and didn't want to go, for a long, long time!) It was supposed to stop the bleeding. It made it much worse instead.

My sister, on the other hand, got a Depo shot to START her bleeding, because she wasn't having periods at all.

The problem with depo is there are no long term studies of how safe it is.

it can take a couple years after depo for your fertility to come back.

i had a shot and felt awful. felt all bloated that i was happy when my period finally came it was just a relief and a feeling of relief.

apparently about half of women swear by it (think it is the most wonderful thing) and about half of women say they would never have one of those shots again.
