I've been on the maximum dose of Crestor for about a year now. They warned me that I might get muscle pain, but so far I haven't.

Has this happened to anyone else on any statin?[/QUOTE]
Yes, but not me. Atherosclerosis runs in the family. I had cabgx5 over 20 years ago. Recently, I decided cholesterol isn't the problem and stopped taking the statin after I went to my cardio's office and an assistant said they wanted to double my statin dose. I asked why, and they said "can't have too low cholesterol." Not true. A 375,000 person study just revealed the highest morbidity was among those with the lowest cholesterol. The following year I went back to the cardio and was seen by an internal medicine doctor who said he was sorry to see me quit my statin since I had met my LDL goals. I should have said "If I met my goals, why was it necessary to double my dose?" But I didn't. The following year they dismissed me because I wasn't taking what they were prescribing to lower my risks, though they failed to notice I had lost 38 lbs, as if that didn't matter. Here is what I think. There is no atherosclerosis on the veinous side which has pressure of 5mmg of mercury. The atherosclerosis occurs on the arterial side due to damage of the artery walls due to high blood pressure (120/80) and inflammation. You will always have enough cholesterol in your body to patch the damage caused by those two things. I seek to control my bp and inflammation and I skip the cholesterol thing. It's just another number for the medical industrial complex to focus on. 50% of people who suffer heart attacks don't have high cholesterol. Here are the side effects of statins: Statin side effects: Weigh the benefits and risks - Mayo Clinic. Also, the absolute risk reduction in taking a statin is less than one life saved per 100 statin users. That's a risk I'm willing to take for bacon. ![]() |
