I am trying to decide which one I have. I plan on calling the doc first thing tomorrow morning and going in to see him but want to prepare myself as to what he will say.

Anyway I am coughing a lot, and when I cough my ribs hurt like crazy like they are on fire. I am running a low grade temp 101.9 and am just tired. Yesterday I tried to do some housework and just making the bed wiped me out and I had to lay down and rest.

So do you guys have any idea which it is?

Pneumonia is an inflammatory illness of the lung. The alveoli in the lung typically fill with fluid. This can be caused be a variety of things including bacteria or a virus. A chest x-ray is usually used to diagnose pneumonia. Signs can include cough, chest pain, and fever.

Bronchitis is also an inflammatory illness but it is specifically inflammation of the large bronchi in the lung. It too can be caused by bacteria or a virus. A common sign is an expectorating cough (phlegm).

They are similar so I can totally understand your question. Not sure if this info helps you out at all. The chest pain and fever say pneumonia to me. Hope you feel better soon!

I am still feeling pretty crummy and am really sleepy so I think after Extreme Makeover Home Edition I may be off to bed. My doc's office opens at 8 so I will set my alarm for 8 and be one of their first calls so I can get in to see him tomorrow. I may also try to talk to his wife tonight and get her opinion on the situation. I've done that before and got to talk to him and gotten him to call me in something to get me through the night so hopefully that will happen.

All I know is that bronchitis feels in the upper chest... pneumonia feels deep down in the lungs ... to me.

102 is not a low-grade fever! Anything over 101 is generally pneumonia. What did the doctor say, jbug?

Sorry - I read 101...... lost the .9 - which made it 102, but that can still be Bronchitis, as my son often runs 104 with his.

Waiting to see what the doctor has to say.

The doctor did a chest x-ray and said its not pnemonia its bronchitis. So another round of antibiotics and some delsym. The deslym is an oc cough syrup but he had samples of it so he said if works I'm supposed to pick up some of that. So when I go to walmart tonight I will get some.

I am still having trouble breathing it hurts like crazy. I called my doc this morning to see if he would call me in something for the pain and he said to give the antibiotic 3-5 days to work and then if it didn't work by then to call back. WAAAAAAAAAA I want pain pills. I just took some more tylenol PM and am hoping to go back to sleep so I dont hurt but I am tired of sleeping my day away.

Just know that your body needs the REST so it may heal and then you can get back to being up with the sun.

I am burning up right now. I took my temp and my temp is up in the 100's again. bronchitis vs pnemonia I didn't get to go to work today and I am really tired of seeing the inside of my apartment. I overdid it this morning by going to walmart so now am back laying on my couch sweating. I'm about to take some more ibuprofen to bring my fever down and I turned my ceiling fan on. No need to respond this is just a whine on my part.
