My mother's boyfriend is getting a hernia removed tomorrow. Is this a serious or dangerous operation? My mom is so worried...

It's a very "standard" operation. It's a hernia repair probably, not removal. Muscles weaken and the abdomen "bulges" out is what a hernia is. They fix a "net" in there to help the muscles hold it in like it's supposed to be.
