about an hour ago. I was at the computer and suddenly I started seeing flashes of bright lights then the sight in my left eye was gone. Everything went white in that eye. I could see fine out of my right eye. When I'd close my eyes, I could see pinpoint of bright lights in my left eye only in amongst the white. Then there was one red light... then after about 5 minutes everything cleared. I watched for signs of anything else and all I got was a very short headache and an upset stomach for as short a time as the headache.

Anyone know what this could be? Could it be an occular migraine... or something worse?

I'm still feeling some of the panic that I felt initially although I took a Klonopin.

Help? I'm afraid to go to bed and it's almost 4 am.

That sounds suspiciously like a TIA, hon. Go get checked out as soon as you can.

Yes, I agree with Bebop - this is one of those occasions that it would be a good idea to go to the Emergency Room for help, so that they can check this out. It could be a detached retina, which they can fix if you get in there soon. I've been warned about this also because of some eye problems I have.

Let us know what happens - please go get some help, okay?

Thinking of you,

Would you please pray for me? I'm on my way to the ER. Figure there they can tell me whether it's a TIA or a torn or detached retina.

:sobbing:

I'm really sacred!!

I am thinking of you and hoping they find out what it is and that it is nothing serious.

Seven hours later and two unnecessary puncture wounds, one on each arm and I'm finally home. The Dx; occular migraine. They ran all kinds of blood tests and four kinds of scans. Results: contrary to popular opinion, I DO have a brain and a good one at that, I DO have a heart and a good one, too, with no "vegetation"? that could have shaken loose and the main arteries from my heart to my brain are clear. Can you imagine! WOW Next on the list is following up with a neurologist to control the migraines, I guess. Unless a neurologist can see things that all those techs and the doctor couldn't see.

I'm happy but I certainly don't want that to happen again! It's hell getting old, ya know?

Thanks, all of you for caring.

My vision came back about 5-10 minutes after this happened. That was one reason why a detatched retina was ruled out.

I'm okay now, thanks Be.

{{{{{Silver}}}}}}} Thanks, Hon. I hope it doesn't either! Going blind even for a few minutes is NO FUN!

I remember my first "aura" migraine...you are right it is scary stuff when the eye sight goes. I'm glad you didn't get too sick from it though....and the pain wasn't for too long of a time.

I get migraines often, but only get those with an aura on occasion...could be months and months between them. Just about any over the counter migraine med will help until the aura comes and then I have to take the immitrex and go to bed.

I've known some folks too who get the aura and never have any pain from them......funny how they affect people so differently.

I'm glad it was nothing more serious than the migraine!

My first migraine was a doozy! I was too dumb then to be frightened about it, though. LOL Suddenly I had a huge aura in front of me and I could only see around it, not through it. It was years and years before I had another aura. Now I get aura's a lot of times but they grow quickly and then disappear. I can see through the auras now, too.

Lately, though, the auras have been getting stranger and stranger. Each one is different. I get double vision, too, but that goes away quite quickly, too. The first time and the second were the only times it's put me to bed with the pain, though. GEEEEZ! That's worse than labor and I screamed, moaned and groaned with my second kid! With the pain from the migraine, I felt like beating my head on the headboard! I think I'd rather have the pain than the blindness, though! YIKES!

IDK, if I ever have a stroke, I probably won't know it until some body part goes dead. LOL A stroke is my greatest fear. I watched the grandmother (SHE deserved it!) and my mom die from them. (shiver!!!!) Thankfully, I'm on meds to prevent one, and diet, of course.

Next stop, the neurologist. It's heck getting old, ya know? Don't do it! LOL

I hear ya about that getting old thing girl...I'm with you on that!

I'm glad you are on meds and eating properly to counteract the stroke thing....good for you!!

I think my scariest time with a migraine (aside from my first really painful one with the aura) was a couple of years ago I had a double aura....first one in my left eye, then one in my right eye....scared the heck outta me and I thought....oh crap I'm in for a doozy of a headache now. And I was I ever right I immediate called the doctor, as I was on the road, they had me come in for a shot of toradal and imitrex immediately so I could drive home. I think I was down for the count for the next 12 hours or so and felt so dang lousy for another 24 hours afterwards....it was hell.

Thank goodness that only happened once, and I haven't had an aura (knock on wood) in about a year. Just a few "non descript" migraines that the excedrin migraine takes care of pretty nicely
