As some of you know, I have been having really really bad lower abdominal for like a week.
My husband tried to take me to a free clinic in our area the night before last, but lo and behold, that clinic was non-existent. And by this point I was doubling over and screaming in pain, and so my hubby said, "screw it I'm taking you to the damn hospital." I tried to put up an argument about us having no money or medical insurance, but I was in too much pain to fight to hard. We spent about 4 hours in the ER to found out that I had a urinary tract infection (which I had suspected... so I been drinking loads of cranberry juice and taking AZO and taking some leftover antibiotics my sister-in-law had). They also said I had "multiple rather large cysts" on my ovaries. So, yeah... they spent me home with a prescription for a pain killer and an antibiotic. Ugh... we will now have like a $7,000+ hospital bill... just to be told something I already knew (that I had a freaking urinary tract infection)!!!!! And I am still in so much pain I want scream. The only thing that even remotely helped was when they gave me Demerol thorough my IV. If all that isn't bad enough, my body is so freaking stupid because I have always had a pretty hard time swallowing pills (it usually takes me like 45-60 seconds to get them down), but these antibiotics that the ER gave me are IMfreakinPOSSIBLE to take... they start to dissolve as soon as I put them in my mouth! I ended up spitting out/gagging/almost throwing up two pills because they dissolved and they were omg so bitter!!! *gags just thinking about it* So now, I am sick, and I can't even take what I know will make me better. What the hell?!?! I feel like such a moron!!!! |

it completely sucks how the medical system works here. maybe you can work something out about the bill, i think that now that there are so many uninsured people in some ways it's easier, they are more used to making arrangements than before.
but it is, actually, really good that you went. you can't resolve a serious UTI with cranberry juice, and if it goes too far you can get kidney damage which in the long run would have been much more dangerous and expensive. and I've had cysts, not even multiple large ones, and they are incredibly painful! I HAVE gone to the ER about it. it turns out to not be serious, but the pain is comparable to lots of life threatening things like appendicitis (which I've also had) and ectopic pregnancy, and there is no way for you to know the difference unless you get it checked out. in the end, bill or no bill, your husband was right to take you. there are things that you just can't ignore. surgery or a hospital stay would have been much worse. i'm sorry it's at such a cost to you and I really hope a new administration fixes this situation, but i am very glad it wasn't anything worse. poor manda. i really hope your luck turns around.
