I had blood tests last week and my doc phoned me tonight with the result - I have an over-active thyroid.

Doc says that's why I lost all that weight so quickly, even tho I was eating healthy meals, that's what's causing my anxiety and shaking not the meds I'm on for depression after all. It's also the cause of my intolereance to heat - I get really hot, really quickly and sweat - I used to be the one who was always cold, when everone else was hot, but now, just can't bear the heat at all. It's been putting a strain on my heart, so the palpatations I thought were 'nothing' at first are because of that.

The tiredness, oh boy, the tiredness, that's all becasue of it too. I could sleep for 10 hours and wake up exhausted. A friend said to me 'maybe you're getting too much sleep. Too much sleep is bad for you.' So I thought I might as well try and sleep less, can't feel any worse than I do just now... but I'm always exhausted, no matter how much or little sleep I get. I either remember dreams vividly or I feel like I haven't dreamt at all.

I have to go pick up a prescription tomorrow morning. In a couple of months I should start to feel better.

I am now wondering if my depression could be connected to this at all??? Doc says no, what do you think?

Thanx for listening/reading folks, I actually feel a bit better just knowing what's been causing these things for sure.

Karen

I heard thyroid was related to depression... I'm not sure how though. If you feel it is , ask around...

I have to tell you when I first complained to my MD that I was having somnolence, excessive exhaustion, apathy, etc. symptoms, the first thing that she did was test for an under-active thyroid. That if your thyroid is not producing enough hormone, it can cause depression-like symptoms. I'm not sure about over active thyroid though.

Might be good to ask around or just do some general research.

Take care,
Kimberly.
