Sorry guys that I haven't been on the site that much. I'm totally down. My right knee might need to be operated on....(NO HIKING), if not, I'm going to have a series of injections into the bone area and the inner ligament......(NO HIKING)

Well, this morning I HAD an appointment with the doc and the nurse told me he wasn't coming in today because he has something to do over at the hospital. My appointment is now moved to 8:30am Friday. I hate to complain, but my knee is killing me. I can hardly walk! I don't even want to be on the computer I'm so down. I know there's other people with worse problems then me, but I'm just really hurting and feeling like crap right now. I'm on 10mg Percacets and they aren't even working. I'm so worried that my hiking and climbing days are over.

Sorry to ramble and complain.......but this is how I feel right now. Hiking and climbing is my LOVE! Plus walking is nice too! Right now I need a cane to walk. It just sux!!!!!!

Hopefully they can fix your knee soon and you will be able to hike and perhaps even climb again. Take care!

((((PS)))) put an ice pack on the area for 15 minutes, than take off for 15 minutes, etc. don't know how severe the damage is but my left knee had to be operated on...sailboat racing...running forward towards the bow and the boat went into a trough and came back up just as i was landing...leg was like a rubber band....no support at the kneecap...and it's stronger now than the original God gave me. i just don't lead with that leg anymore and no more tennis either. too rough on the knee cause it's hard impact. but other than a few things i had to give up i can do everything else. pray the outcome will be as good for you...there is sooooo much they can do to repair knees now. may i recommend you see a sports "ortho" doc? they are up on all the new stuff.
i won't say recovery will be fast but many ppl with similar injury to mine were up and about after 3 months. mine took longer but finally i started doing my own pt at home. got tired of the slow progress so took charge.
try not to predict the outcome cause it won't change anything while you wait to see the doc. just think about all the time you can enjoy outside hiking in the future with a fixed knee. envision it in your mind. there's healing power in that, jme. and we both have the same higher power so you need to bend His ear. meanwhile i'll be bending it too for you!!! please let us know how you are doing, k???? also try to get on pc and talk about this as much as you feel up to it. it will help too cause we all care for you.

Hey, Please_Stop...I don't know you, but I feel your pain! I'm so sorry you are having to go thru this.
My mother had one knee replacement and though she was in bad health at the time, the knee seemed to heal well. My coworker, school principal, age 54, had BOTH knees replaced last summer. Her recovery was painful, but now she's jumping around like a teenager. I am having pain in my left knee each night, which wakens me as I try to sleep. Same knee my mom had to have replaced.
Don't give up. I hope the meds work for you, but also be aware that replacement surgery seems to work wonders.

Oh I feel your pain. I know how bad knee pain can be. I have chronic pain in my knees and there is nothing my ortho can do about it.

I imagine as I get older I will be facing a knee replacement.

I will pray that your knee pain goes away soon and that you can get in to see your doc soon.

Thanks everyone. I'm doing better. The plan is to get a series of 3 injections (once a week) of Synvisc http://www.synvisc.com/About.aspx

That should work through the summer. And then I'll go for the operation around November and lay low. Then I should be all better for the spring of 2010.

What do ya think? Good plan????
