I fear that I have reinjured it again.

About 10 years ago I was on vacation in Nebraska visiting friends and I slipped and fell in some mud and broke both bones in my leg down by my ankle and had have emergency surgery before I could come home. I was blessed to have the same ortho doc that was my ortho when I lived there so he remembered me. Anyway fast forward about 7 years and I was at an outdoor craft fair that they have here in a field and I stepped in a hole and rebroke it and ended up having bone fragments floating around in my ankle. So again I had surgery and my current ortho went in and cleaned it out and I was fine. Well now I stepped wrong today and am having the same kind of pain I had last time I rebroke it. It is very hard to walk on it and I have noticed it is a bit swollen. I am not going to go to the ER because it would be pointless there would be nothing they could do for it except tell me to R.I.C.E. it and make an appointment with my ortho. I am thinking about giving it til Monday just to make sure that maybe it's not just strained or something minor like that. I guess it would make his day to see me for something other than my knees though LOL. He is only in the office on Monday's and Wednesdays and it is getting to where he will be super busy because the Naturals will be in town soon. He is the team doctor for the Naturals who is the minor league team for the KC Royals.

Sorry you are going through this as I know how you are feeling because I broke my left foot twice (in the exact same place) and it was murder..... I personally went to the ER each time and it helped as they placed a splint on my leg/foot for stability until I could see my ortho doctor and the best part was that they gave me PAIN PILLS to ease the movements I made as I moved about until I got a cast put on.

I've already got pain pills for my migranes so that isn't a problem. I had it wrapped in an ace bandage right now for stability but had to take it off because I wrapped it too tight and it was cutting off my circulation. I did call and made an appointment but can't get in to see him until the 7th. I am on a cancellation list though so if something comes up before then I can get into see him sooner. He is out of the office until Monday anyway.

I finally gave in and went to the ER today. I tried to get into see my GP but he was booked so I went to the ER. They X-Rayed it and said it is just sprained and to use my crutches for about a week and then try to walk on it. I also told them that the Tramadol I have for the pain isn't touching the pain which is true so he gave me a script for 10 hydrocodone. I am glad it isn't broken but that is what they said last time I had bone fragments floating around in my ankle. So if it is still hurting like it is now on the 7th I will keep the appointment with my ortho and take the x-rays they did today.

Good to hear that your ankle is not broken..... rest, soak, and keep that foot up.
