Does anyone know whats the difference of a fever or flu. I'm so sick right now and just dont know whats the best thing to take care of myself. I went to see a doctor already and she said to take pills for the body aches and that was it. One minute I feel like I'm normal then the next I'm laying in bed sick like a baby. Sore throat, heavy pounding headache, body aches, hot sweats and cold chills. It is so uncomfortable.

Did she test you for the Swine Flu? The symptoms are the same.
Can you call and ask for one of the anti-viral medications that are being used?

I have a flu of some kind but not a high fever. I have been using Alka Seltzer Cold and it helped the headache and sore throat and body aches.

When I feel like this I always take "Tylenol Cold & Flu" - it works for me.

Fevers usually go along WITH the flu.

And it certainly sounds like a flu bug to me... not a cold, because colds usually don't hit you that badly!

If your fever has hit or gone over 101*C, then get yourself a doctor. Otherwise: Rhap gave a good suggestion. Take the pills your doc said, drink lots of fluids, try to eat soup and lots of sleep. Vitamin C (orange juice) and echinacea(sp) probably would also help.

If you've got the chills and "hot flashes" that usually means you've got a fever. Check your temperature out with a thermometer, definitely a good idea.

I'm not a doctor, but I know my general "flu bug" routine and recuperation.

I'm home sick today with the same symptoms. I'm going to call the doc's and hoping I can get in. The flu season is officially over, so, I am a bit concerned about the "swine" flu. And I really do not have time for this. Our high school is new, and we are having our very first graduation this coming Monday! I have NO intention of missing it!
Hope I'm just normal sick! LOL!

Peace!

  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Chills
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Dry cough
  • Runny nose may also occur but is more common in children than adults

I was always told that if you had the flu you still wouldn't get out of bed if someone said there was someone giving out free money outside.

Just a way of describing how rough you are when you have flu I guess.
Thanks for this!

Well, I did see my doc. It's just a good case of acute sinusitus.
Better than the alternative!

But, it's a good lesson on letting fear take hold of reason.
If the swine flu hadn't been around, prominent in the news, I'd have thought it was a sinus infection all along! LOL!
In the end, I just want to be well for Monday's graduation.

Peace!

Try taking aspirin or paracetamol as directed to help with the fever, and drink lots of water too to keep hydrated.

Nightbird,

Thank you for your sweet thoughts.
It's not exactly *my* graduation, though.

I am teaching at a brand new high school this year. And it's our very first graduation this year. So, it's a big deal for our school, you see? It's our first graduating class. There's only one first, as they say.

I've been given the honor of leading the students in moving their tassell from one side to the other - that actual moment of graduation. I cannot be sick! It's a very exciting time for our school!

Thank you again for your kind thoughts!

Peace!
