So...I've always had sensitive skin, I guess...but I was reading an article online last night that made me wonder if everyone has this, or is this something indicative of something else.
It doesn't hurt to touch my skin in general, or to brush across it......that feels normal. But if you take one or two fingers and you push on my skin, even just a little, it really hurts. And, it hurts worse in different places. It's like that all over my body? I always thought it was just normal and didn't think anything about it until I read this article. It was an article on "allodynia" and fibromyalgia. So, I'm just wondering...does everyone have painful skin/muscles when they are gently poked? Is it normal? Thanks __________________ |

ooh, i'm gonna have to google this up.
i remember there was a thread on this in the ptsd forum, though. my body feels like it is bruised all over... even though it's not. usually when it starts off it's just that the skin is very tender, but if it gets worse it hurts just to have anything come in contact with it (including going to bed or something). not sure if we're talking about the same thing. if you could link the article you read i'd really appreciate it - i've gone to so many drs about this - but i'll try a google search myself too . |

I wouldn't think that it is normal I would see a Dermatologist . Sorry Elysium , but I'm not totally with it tonight. Or any night for that matter . I'm sure it's nothing to worry about . If you have just the soreness, that could be Fibromyalgia. If you feel nodules that hurt when you press down, it could be Chronic Myofascial Pain. The two can exist together, I am walking proof.
Fibro has tender points. CMP has trigger points. (that often have referred pain) Here's a good thread where everyone talks about what it feels like to have fibro. http://forums.psychcentral.com/showthread.php?t=71301 |

oh goodness. this is crazy. i've been reading up on this all day and i really, really relate.
i dont know if i meet the criteria for it, but just knowing other ppl feel this way helps so much. i will have to print out some info and show pdoc. he's the only person who believes me when i say how much things hurt. |

Fibro makes your skin sensitive to the slightest pressure at times. I'm so sorry all of you hurt, too.

Elysium, do you have fibro? There are days when my fibro is acting up that it hurts to wear clothes my skin is so sensitive. I agree with the others though. You ought to have this checked out by a doctor. The average person does not experience what you are describing.

Hey Y'all...
I've been doing some reading (TY Google) about Fibro and I think I need to be evaluated for it like LizardLady says. I never really knew much about Fibro...thought it was a neuromuscular thing actually. Then I started reading about it and found some stuff from the Mayo Clinic online and couldn't believe what I was reading. I have soooo many symptoms of it. I always wondered why, when I'd come home from working (12 hours/day-on my feet) I would feel like I had been hit by a train, and doing this three days in a row would take me out. I've been thinking that I've been such a wimp because I cry so much about not wanting to go to work cause it just hurts and I feel awful afterwards. My skin hurting like this...the headaches, the nausea, the light sensitivity....I just didn't put it together. It really sucks!!! Not the end of the world...but it sucks!! Anyway...I am sorry for all who share in these experiences. Some of the online stuff said that doing some gentle exercise on a routine basis can help with the pain. I really want to find a Yoga class to go to....but that's scary!!! I am fat.....and I've never heard of Yoga for the fat people!!! It's so hard to do when all around you are slimmer people and you can feel yourself bulging out at the seams. Anyway...I don't have med insurance so getting checked will have to wait until I do. But I'll keep you all posted, and if you find any good info on it...drop it in the thread. Take care!! __________________ |
