Post Nasal Drip

My son has been sniffing for days. He is not even aware of it but it is driving me batty. When I ask him to blow he says there is nothing there. He says it just feels like there is. Is there anything I can give him or must time takes it course?

There are alot of childrens cold and alergy medications out there. I prefer benedryl. It comes in pink, no dye, the original one and the no drowsy, caplets, capsules and liquid. Be it a cold or alergy related it worked on my son. Dimatap also worked for my son.

I love Advil Cold & Sinus.... and its non-drowsy.

Hi Sabrina,
Post nasal drip is awful! Basically any one of the meds listed above will work, and I find that drinking a lot of water helps, as if flushes and thins the mucous. Also, a neti-pot works wonders, and it's natural and provides immediate relief. I talked with a pharmicist who said her 8 year old son uses one. It's a little strange at first, but you get used to it. I hope your son gets some relief!

Hmm - he might be allergic to one or more of the ingredients in the vitamins.... I take allergy meds for I have a slight allergic reaction to one of my RA meds.... and well, I need them to keep my body moving.

Try another brand of vitamins. If that doesn't work, take him to the Dr. Also, if it doesn't work, check and see if he's playing around something with mold on it, like out in the yard or near a pool. That can cause it, too.

A neti pot is this little thing that looks like a miniature Alladin's lamp but with no lid. You put salt water in it and turn your headupside down and sniff the salt water up your nose. They say it works wonders, but I just can't stand the thought. Ackk!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure Zen can describe it better, but that's a start.

His vitamin is specific for his ADHD, but I guess I should look around for something different.

I cannot imagine my sone doing that thing with the neti-pot. I think he might just look for another mother if I make him!

It is really cold here now and this child just refuses to wear warm clothing insisting that he doesn't get cold. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Yes, January described what a neti pot is.

It is basically a little teapot (I like the one called Sinucleanse) which was designed by an ear, nose and throat doctor. Like Jan said, you tilt your head to one side over the sink and insert the spout into your nostril.(Both sides, one at a time) The warm salt water in the pot flows over your sinuses and out the other nostril. I know, it sounds very uncomfortable, and the first time I tried, it felt very strange. It gets easier each time though, and it's kind of comforting after a while. Unfortunately because I have inner ear problems, I do not use it as often as I would like to. But it does work, it's been around since ancient times, and the thing I did love about it was I could breathe at last! It clears up the post nasal drip also, since it cleanses the back of your sinuses as well. You can go to the sinucleanse website, it has a demonstration and everything. Of course, it's not for everyone, but it has helped, and the thing I like about it is it's medication free.

I hope you find something that will make your son feel better, Sabrina! There are all kinds of things out there, just a matter of finding something that works.
