OUCH! do you have bacitracin?? or AAA ointment? One of those anti-inflammatories?
Soak your toe in warm water with epsom salt for about 20 minutes.. That works to soothe the pain and pull some of the infection out. After that, put some bacitracin ointment on it and wrap it loosely with a bandaid or something similar. Repeat several times a day. If it's not better or it gets worse in a few days, please see a doctor. Those infections can be nasty and painful. The soaking and bacitracin should help, though. More than likely it is infected. If you went to the hospital ER they will probably remove the nail, give you a shot, get the infection out, put you on antibiotics, and bandage up the toe. You will have to soak it for about a week or two. Don't mess around with your feet... they need attention all the time. tc

It has a little pus coming out now. Just a little but it hurts to walk now. If its worse in the am I might go to urgent care.
Sound like a good plan? |

I ended up getting surgery - part of the nail removed - from the outside edge of both my big toes. That was after i had a bad episode as you are now describing, but also after years of trouble. This episode probably will NOT heal on its own, but it shouldnt be too difficult for the dr to fix, if i remember correctly. Maybe because he gets better leverage on it than we can ourselves! Good luck. Tough that it happened on these holidays and maybe get rid of those shoes or boots? Just not worth it.

Can they just take care of it in urgent care? Or will I have to wait and see a podiatrist? I don't want to have to keep waiting.

You should see your doctor and he will likely refer you to one. I recently had this and it wasnt bad at all once it was taken care of. I definitely recommend seeing your doctor asap or if its too painful the er or urgent care. Infections can be dangerous.

I pfutzed around with an ingrown toenail for over a year before getting it taken care of.
If it's looking at you all angry and accusing like, then it's past time to get it seen about. Mosey on over to Urgent Care today and let them help you with it. I assure you that your toe will appreciate this! As pfar as seeing a podiatrist goes ... The only time that's really necessary is if the nail keeps coming back ingrown. |
