Hello. I have a back injury (4 fractured vertebrae and an abnormal curvature of my spine) and when it is really sore and hurts, it helps relieve some of the pain if I make a fist and use my knuckles to, fairly deeply massage and press fairly deep in the soft muscle and tissue spots around my spine that are sore, and I'm just wondering if this is a bad idea and could possibly maybe cause further injury, or if it's fine as long as I don't press too hard and deep in the muscle and tissue.

Dear Photonate,

How awful that you suffered this injury and that the suffering just keeps going on. Heartbreaking! I wish I had an answer to the basic question you pose since it is so important to you health, but sadly I don't. What did your physician say when you told him of how you are obtaining relief? Wish I could help since you are in such distress. Hopefully others here will have more helpful words for you than my poor words. My heart goes out to you!

Sincerely yours, Yao Wen

Thank you for your reply... It's been a couple years now at least since I've had an appointment with my PCP sad to say, and at least a good ~year or so since I've seen any professional at all about it other than the last time I was in the hospital when the most recent fractures occured.

I would try and schedule an appointment with some kind of professional about it, but unfortunately my mental health/function has also declined a considerable amount since not being in any kind of consistent active therapy the past couple years, and I just wouldn't even know where to start let alone be able to keep up with it...
