Hello, so I went to the doctor and I decided to reject bariatric surgery and try the keto diet, he said it would be good for my high cholesterol and borderline blood sugar. I'm also coming off of Seroquel and I know that's gonna help my cholesterol massively. I'm just nervous about keto diet because it's such a drastic change! I love my carbs thinking of stuff that's like low carb i feel like is gonna make me obsessively track. I'm anxious about trying keto I'm not sure if fasting would be better? I have no idea it's so daunting and such a huge change to what I'm used to...

Why not just look at your current eating habits and see what you can cut down on that isnt healthy? Thats what i am doing. First i just tried to make sure i didnt overeat at meals. I eat my portion, usually i am still hungry. But then if i get a second portion, i am TOO stuffed. So i adjust for next time, and try to be careful the rest of the day to not eat too much. The point is to feel good and energized after we eat, not to fall asleep cuz we cant move! This takes a while to get the hang of, but every day is an opportunity, and you dont have to cut out any food groups. I can have one "natural" chocolate brownie, but 2 will make me queasy, so instead i maybe have fruit and one brownie.

black-roses, yes great for you working towards good health. Fasting, I would advise being monitored by your doctor, and would recommend focusing on eating less processed or simple carbs. So eat fresh or frozen fruit and veggies, and lean proteins, and small amounts of brown or wheat pasta, or quinoa. Would recommend asking your doctor for referral to see a dietitian. Then you can get ideas for meal planning so you can add small amounts of your favorite foods, and allow one “free” day once per week or “free meal” a few times per week so can fit in favorite foods.

It may help to keep food log and track calorie, and can add calorie counting app to your phone. Unless history eating disorder then not recommended.

Good luck and hope you reach your cholesterol goals.

I have a problem with sweets especially chocolate. Maybe I can cut out on those and eat less bread and pasta. Choose more filling carbs like lentils etc.

I have a history of anorexia nervosa so anything with calorie counting and weighing my food isn't a good option. I think I'm just gonna chose more filling carbs like lentils etc and cut down on bread and starchy carbs like potatoes. Not that it would be that hard I hate potatoes! I only like sweet potato.

I understand. Even thinking about going on a restrictive diet will set me bingeing.

You might google The Starch Solution, or WFPB - Whole Food Plant Based. This is what i try to follow. Emphasis on veg and starch. Like make a plate half veg, half starch.

Or the magician Penn and Teller (i forget which) ate only potatoes for a few months and wrote a book about it. He lost a lot of weight.

I'm trying a new diet that's a non diet. Eat when your hungry, stop when your satisfied. Whatever you want. I still eat candy and am losing weight. Its a simple concept that's harder to practice. It's slow steady weight loss but it's working for me.
