I have a lot of medical problems, especially neurological problems, and one side effect is I get really constipated. My stomach is really hurting and I’m bloated and nauseous. My doctor has me on magnesium but I don’t think it’s enough. It’s embarrasing and awkward but when I can’t go it’s really miserable. It’s not something I can talk about with the people in my life. I’m having trouble sleeping because I’m too uncomfortable, so hopefully you guys are having a better night.

I read somewhere that rubbing your groin is meant to help you go. I don't know how true it is, (because I don't have that issue), but something worth considering

I’m also having a really hard time advocating for myself because of the shame I feel talking about bowel problems. I’m pretty sure the doctor doesn’t know the extent of my issues. Warning this might be TMI. Sometimes I go over two weeks without a bowel movement and it’s miserable. I can only go with the aid of a laxative and only certain ones work. I never get everything out when I go, so I’m constpated 24/7. I need to pluck up the courage and just be open with the details to my doctor about what’s going on but I naturally really struggle with advocating for myself, so if anyone has tips on how to advocate let me know.

There's a med called Amitiza that is taken daily to help constipation. It's not a laxative, it just helps things work better. It really helped me when I had a lot of constipation. It's a prescription though.

Miralax also helps and is OTC.

Are you getting lots of fiber?

I'm so sorry you're going through this; I know from experience how bad it feels.

As hard as it is to talk to the doctor I think you need to. I've been on all kinds of treatments and my doctor really helped me when I needed it.

Thank you for the response, if you haven’t been through it I think it’s hard to see the amount severe constipation can really affect your life. I eat a high fiber vegetarian diet and I drink lots of water, unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be doing much. I have never had much luck with miralax but maybe I need to take it longer or at a higher dose. I think you are right and I just need to talk to my doctor about what is going on.

I sent a really detailed message to my doctor about the situation. I know I needed to be honest with them so that they can help, but it’s really embarrassing telling someone else the details about what happens in the bathroom. I know they won’t respond today, but hopefully they have advice this week.

Drink prune juice it's a natural laxative. Two swings gave my mom diaherra. She's a regular taker of laxatives.

CASCARA SAGRADA: Overview, Uses, Side Effects, Precautions, Interactions, Dosing and Reviews

Try this, but be sure to take no more than teo pills a day. It’s best to take it T around 5-6 after dinner. Results occur in 12-14 hours usually. You might experience dome stimach discomfort at first, or maybe not. Drink lots of water. This makes me poop most of the time even when I don’t akways eat enough fiber.

Also, try pearl probiotics. The small pills are easy to swallow. It helps regulate your digestive tract.

Eat chia seeds too. You need insoluble fiber to help you go.
