Do you take meds for your prediabetes? I take a low dose of metformin. But my a1c went even higher to 6.1 now. Last time it was 5.8.

My dr added long-acting, once a day insulin to my metformin. Thats the only way i could see what foods affected my blood sugar. Basically, if i go over the recommended 30, 30, 45 gms of carbs, my blood sugar stays high.
Do you have a home glucose monitor? It can really help you figure out what is okay to eat, and how much exercise really helps. |

I try to keep my carbs down. I have adopted a keto diet and it keeps me in the normal range.

I have reversed prediabetes with ozempic/mounjaro. I now have glycated hemoglobin in the 4.8-5.0 range. An excellent result. I am attaching a screenshot of my results graph. I started Ozempic in late 2021.
I also take Metformin, just in case. 1000-1500 mg a day. But that is more for longevity than anything else. __________________ Bipolar I w/psychotic features, well managed |

I also second the advice of monitoring your individual glucose response to meals, exercise, sleep etc. but especially meals and walking after eating. this is really the gold standard to find out how you (and not someone else) react to this or that food or combo of foods/drinks.
I have made small adjustments based on monitoring. For instance, after I once saw a huuuge spike after drinking a lemonade at a party (a spike even though the lemonade was followed by a wholesome meal), I started ordering sparkling water at restaurants and drinking it before and with a meal. __________________ Bipolar I w/psychotic features, well managed |

I would also suggest asking your doctor about a continuous glucose monitor. I would love to get one but don't qualify because I don't have diabetes. But friend that had them were shocked to find out certain food that they thought were fine... made the glucose spike like crazy. It was a real eye opener and helped them get their numbers down.

it is horrible how insurance companies would pay for bariatric surgery but not for ozempic which achieves a similar result much more safely and without lifelong impairment. it is simply dreadful.

A CGM sounds horrible to me. I sleep on my side (either one) and i cant have something on my arm! I hope i never have to have one. Plus all that info might make me (more) crazy.

You are in grad school, right? Maybe when you finish and get a job, you will be on private insurance which will cover Ozempic. Or in a couple of years Medicare might start covering it.
