Today my bf son had thrown up on himself and the carpet, and furniture. He is 8 years old. I have a hard time cleaning up vomit bc it makes me gag before I even look at it. OMG the smell. Well my bf was a little upset with me bc I was upset that his son didn't go to the bathroom. I know it was probably an accident, but does anyone think that an 8 year old should be able to go to the bathroom when he feels like he's going to vomit?

You know how nausiated you can feel before you heave up? Considering the kid was sick, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt - he may have been overwhelmed at the time and it just happens.

Vomit happens! My 11 year old son gets migraines and throws up before he has a chance to move. I don't get angry or upset, heck, he's not feeling good or he wouldn't be throwing up.

Yeah, it stinks and its gross, and is not visually appealing. I hate to say you'll get used to it, but maybe with time....

Good luck!

Dee

Sometimes when people are ill or ingested something they shouldn't have, they cant always rush to the proper place to puke. Also, at 8 years-old, he may have been in a slight panic over the fact he was going to puke and it ended up not in the toilet. Also, he may have been too far from the toilet to make it there in time, tried to get there but, alas, the furniture got it.

I don't have much advice other than hopefully you can grin and bare it or get used to it. If you really have trouble with it, then take a clothespin and pop it on your nose to block out the smell and hopefully you can overcome the visual aspect of it.

I know that when I feel ill I think I’ll be ok if I just stay still. I don’t even want to ask someone for a pail because I’m trying frantically to bring my mind in another direction. If this is so difficult for you why isn’t your bf cleaning up after his son?

I always had a really hard time making it to the bathroom when I was sick. The best advice I can give is as soon as they arn't feeling good put a bucket or large bowl by them. Best case scenario they don't need it. It's good to have it there for them. And it's easy clean up. Plug your nose, dump in the toilet, flush, and rinse outside with a hose. Then put back beside bed because it may be needed again.

He tried to, but he did something really gross that made me so mad that I just told him to leave it alone. When my kids were little I could handle it, but since I'm getting older the smell alone makes me gag. I can't even handle the site of blood anymore either. A little nick on the finger makes me feel like passing out.

I find myself in the same position Michele with smells and blood. I worked as a CENA and I’ve come across some vile things, but these days WOW my stomach just can’t handle it. Try putting vicks on your nose next time. It’s what we used in the nursing home for particularly odorous jobs.

I remember when I was around that age once I threw up and I didn't even feel sick. The only reason why I made it to the bathroom was because an adult noticed that I looked really pale.

He's doing better. I had him stay home from school 3 days this week. He can eat, but his stomach gets a little upset still, but at least he's holding it down. I was starting to get really concerned that maybe he had the swine flu. That flu is down here in our area. My bf was at work the other night, and someone came up to him and told him that someone in this girls family had that flu. I started freaking out. The school did send home a paper with resources about it. I guess if you are already sick. Meaning your not healthy anyways that it can kill you, but they said for healthy people that you should get over it. My bf did say that they have the vac-shot here, but they won't give it to you unless they think that you are going to die from it. Well that's what that girl told him anyways. You know sometimes I just hate hearing someone elses stories. My anxiety is already bad enough as it is.

I think all parents have been frustrated with a sick child at one time or another. When my youngest catches something he gets sicker than the rest and stays sicker longer. Even when he was older when he was ill I’d have him sleep in my room with me. I would beg and plead with him every 20 minutes to eat part of a popsicle or drink some water so that he wouldn’t have to go in for an IV for the dehydration. (Don’t really admit them anymore, just have them come in for the IV). And make sure that he took his Tylenol every 4 hours on the dot to try to keep his temp down.

The last time he got really ill he was about 12, he was so weak he couldn’t get his head over the basin and would be sick all over himself and the bedding. I knew he couldn’t help it, but it was SO frustrating that I had to keep changing my sheets and bedding. I have 6 complete sets of bedding that he went through in less than two hours. I know this because the first set wasn’t even close to dry when I had to pull the last set I had off. Common sense finally dawned on me and I used flat sheets as draw sheets like they do in the hospital so that I only had to change one thing when he was sick.

I KNOW that the frustration was more about my concern for my son than the mess he was making, but by the sixth time I was in almost in tears. I am a trained nurses aid, but the beds we changed with patients in them were twin not king. And when it’s your son crying because the last thing he needs is to be disturbed when he’s sick… Luckily when I took him BACK to the doctor he was intelligent enough to understand I wasn’t complaining about having to change the sheets, I was concerned he wasn’t able to keep anything down, not the meds that were Rx’d to settle his stomach, not the Tylenol to lower his fever, nothing. This was the way I was expressing that much more was coming out that was going in. Even though they’d given him meds in the IV to try to stop the emesis it wasn’t working, he wasn’t taking anything orally not peeing and still everything they’d pump in he’d throw back up.

I'm 21 and I got sick this summer, just a one-day kinda thing and I promise I couldn't have made it to the bathroom if i tried. I was laying down, and then sat up and that second I knew it was coming and I didn't even have time to stand up before it all came splattering out. And then I had to clean it up myself since I stayed home from work and was alone. So even at my ripe old age it isn't easy getting to the bathroom in that state!
