dani, kids are so forgiving. He loves you as his mom, and nothing can change that. If If he is in school, he probably needs to de-stress from school by having some alone time. You can always be a listener. That doesn't take much energy, and makes all the difference to a child who wants your attention. Read him a book once a day...that doesn't take a lot of energy.

Good mothering doesn't mean running kids to activity after activity. Being an only child, he may benefit more from alone time with you, just being in the same room quietly playing by himself. And there is nothing wrong with watching a movie together.

Just being together is enough.

Hi Danii,

The only thing I would suggest is make sure that your son knows that what is going on with you is not his fault. My mom was mentally ill when I was growing up and I felt like it was my responsibility to make sure she was okay because no one told me differently. Do your best and it will be okay.

Danii, it will be okay. Be there for your son, even though the depression may make you want to isolate yourself. Assure him that he should not feel guilty and that it is not his fault, and always keep an open ear and a shoulder to cry on for him. You sound like a wonderful, caring mother that only wants the best for her child.

danii, have you made an appointment to try and change your meds? Maybe a different med will bring you up, because we all need to take care of ourselves, too.

He'll be going to school soon, and will get some attention there, too. I hope your counseling goes well.
