I have always been alert to my childrens moods and feelings this has aided me many times over the years. This is one time I have felt it important enough to share with all parents.
I have two children, father of them both is an alcoholic. Our oldest is now 20 yrs old the second child is our now 17 yrs old son. Both of them are very intelligent and by the amount of opposite sex is around them both I feel safe in saying good looking. They are both very social and appear to be well liked in return by both students and staff. I was always receiving praises for their pleasant friendly welcoming personality. I even had other parents ask me if my son was really that good or was he really an Eddie Haskle reborn. I am very proud to admit he IS really that good. It wasn't always that way. Watch over your kids and remember no one is ever going to know them like you do. If their teacher is calling,,writing, or faxing you messages at least once a week to inform you of a behavior, lack of work turned in, or attention in class then its a safe beat ...IT''S Not your child but THE TEACHER. ( and ADHD)
Have you notice your child struggling in school or when he does his homework? Messy well everything? Do they seem to be doing their work at snails pace? And finally is their writing unreadable? These were so me of the first things I noticed my son doing.
It was at our meet the teacher meeting that the teachers team leader informs me they are dividing. Him between the mid-level class and below level class for maxim penatration of the information. I personally do not believe in special education classes for any processing disorder, these disorders already slow them down does it make any since to put them where not only is it given slower but wouldn't that make their intake of it slower too?
I was listening to them trying to convince me that this was in my sons best,, interest and on achiving necessary absorbtion. It really was funny that they felt they had to tag team me to make their case. I was shown some samplesY of his work which clearly showed his battles to grasp the teachings of the paper. I decided that if they would agree that if at anytime I am unhappy with his progress or i dont see him improving all around i get to pull him back and put him back in mid-level 3rd grade. They agreed but would they keep it?
After a couple of weeks and my 6th called from the lower-level teacher complaing about homework or additude or failing to make deadlines. 98% of these calls were later founded to deemed teachers loss. I also noticed that my son was starting to complain about tummy pains, headaches or begging to go in late more. When questioned about it.he denied any problems. Over the next week I watched his stress get worse but he still said nothing finally being desperation I took a digital recorder and hid it in his backpack he didnt know it either. I waited all day worring about it taping right or not. When i got a chance to listen what i found shocked me to my very fiber. His teacher was calling him names in front of his classmates!!!
The next day I took that recording to the princepl by 10am she was fired lost her retirement fund. My son was happier, he made it two weeks before having another tummy ache.

My son went through similar issues when in school. I knew he was having problems with his teacher it was so obvious. I wish I had thought of the recorder. WAY TO GO!!! So, glad that you found a solution that helped your son.

Where do schools get these teachers? I thought they had been taught better! I'm glad you were able to document it and get your son some support.
