I am really worried about my daughter. She will be 12 on 5-7-13, which is tomorrow. She had to go to urgent care last night and was weighed. She weighs a healthy 102lbs for her height of 5'1". When we got home she told me she was fat and that she wasn't supposed to weigh that much. This worries me something horrible. I have dealt with Anorexia since I was 15 and she knows this because I have been hospitalized twice for it. I am scared that she is going to or already has picked up on habits of mine. Although I am doing really well right now. I just don't know what to do. I am just devestated that she thinks this about herself at such a young age. She is also a dancer, and I know that she is cognisant about other dancers' shapes in the studio. What do I do if anything? I am really upset with myself for possibly saying something about my looks in front of her, although I can't remember doing so. In fact I know she doesn't know what my "safe" number is, so I don't know where she is getting these "Fat" thoughts.

She is getting her "fat" thoughts from her friends, from the media and from society. In fact, I am surprised she did not mention something about her weight sooner. I forget the exact statistic but the majority or pre-teens and teens think they are overweight and are dieting in some way or another. The best thing you can do is to consistently tell your daughter that she looks just right. Teach her healthy eating and exercise habits. Unfortunately, she will probably never be happy with how she looks but you can at least try to minimize her negative thoughts about her body.

I know that some of the thoughts are coming from the media, society, and her friends. But I am also worried that her father may be saying things to her, because he told me that I was fat. I am 5' and don't know what I weigh due to my being anorexic. I am just afraid that she will have an ED because of me.

Keep an eye on what she eats and if you notice she is eating less, or is talking about being fat more, take her to a t?
Some of that is definitely normal though, I have a 10 year old daughter and she talks about it sometimes too.
Thanks for this!
