Anyone homeschooling their kids? We are starting this year, my son would have been going into grade 5 in a traditional school.

Hats off to all Homeschooling Teachers! It takes real commitment and determination to work directly with the kids. Honestly, not everyone has this ability.

It also takes extreme academic competency when you get to the higher grades, let alone the ability to teach. I don't know many parents who still remember calculus, physics, economics, etc, let alone can teach them. My dad has a graduate degree, but by the time I got to 9th grade he was useless at homework help!

calculus, physics, economics, etc, are usually taken at local community colleges when kids turn 16+

If kids take all higher level courses at community colleges ( which is pretty much almost every course in junior and senior year) then it's not really homeschooling in a true sense?

My son did flvs this year which was very similar to homeschool programs like Time4learning, monarch and switched on schoolhouse but it is an online private school. I've never had to be as hands on with any homeschool program as I did with FLVS.
Once students are taking the majority of courses in college I still see it as homeschooling because as a parent you have to make sure work is completed unlike a college student and that all of the classes are in good standing. You still also have to abid by all the homeschool rules. So college is more like an older students co-op classes. __________________ Dx: Me- SzA Husband- Bipolar 1 Daughter- mood disorder+ Comfortable broken and happy "So I don't know why I'm tongue tied At the wrong time when I need this."- P!nk My blog |

We have been at it for two months now. My son is really enjoying it, he loves that he can work ahead in areas of interest.

That's one of the things I like about homeschooling, too. It's been an adjustment for me this year adding a second student, but K work has been pretty mild, so we seem to be doing ok so far!
