Today was the PSAT and my daughter did not prepare and ended up walking out. She texted me to tell me this. At the end of the conversation I thanked her for telling me. I am happy she felt safe enough with me to tell me the truth.
I had encouraged her to prepare ever since I got notified of it and she didn't. I printed out the email from the school, put the booklets she received next to the computer, but she was not interested. I did not take my PSAT/NMSQT. I like her did an alternative education program my junior year, however I was not offered the PSAT. Neither her father nor I have a university degree. I have an associates degree, he has a high school diploma. My father has a bachelors degree and my mother has a masters degree. My mother went back to the university when I was in high school and I was totally neglected. I feel my job is to support my daughter in whatever decision she makes. She got another job, she starts training tomorrow, she's making her best effort in school. I'm not going to force her to move out when she's 18. She can live with me as long as she wants as long as she's working and/or going to junior college. I know she will find her way eventually to what she wants to do. She does community service work at a local soup kitchen, is an avid skateboarder, and really cares about people. I'm struggling with guilt because of my own choices in high school however I have to remember that I did not have parents, and that if I did, I might have made different choices. leo mama |

Honestly, unless she was a possible National Merit Scholar finalist, the PSAT is not a big deal.

My son took the PSAT today and he didn't prepare for it at all. It isn't seen by anyone other than the students and their teachers so I've heard that many kids don't take it seriously. Its only a practice test for the real SAT later in the year.
