Children always feel everything that goes on in the family. Even if you think they don't understand, they don't.

I was very dysfunctional as a single parent, but I did what I could. My daughter did inherit bipolar and did go down a path of drugs. BUT we prevailed and now she’s married and working with kids of her own and we have a good relationship. So don’t give up.

The doctors had me so doped up when my children were growing up that I hardly knew what was going on. But my boys were resilient. And so far neither shows signs of bipolar in their late twenties and early thirties....

I know I could have done a better job had I been able to function better, but we all do the best we can and hope at some point they can see that...
