So, I'm posting this here because it makes sense to me, but I was reading over my discharge summery last night, and I found out that one of the things writen on it was "Borderline Histrionic" and I kinda went WTF?!

For one, this was something never discussed in sessions while I was in inpatient, so it's really come out of left field for me. And two.... what does that even mean?

I read up on both Borderline and Histrionic Personality Disorders, and... well frankly I don't think they fit. Some traits, yes. For Borderline: the identity disturbance sort of fits, but that's mostly only because I really like different social scenes and can switch "genres" whenever I want. Impulsive, yes. Moon swings, yes, but I'm also Bipolar, and that's pretty much all of it. As for the Histrionic side, I fit some of the sexual stuff, and I use to be in theatre.... but I also have serious Social Phobia, am very introverted, and while I am able to manipulate a crowd, or get someone to sleep with me, or be in the spotlight, it's not where I feel safe.

They tried to diagnose me with Borderline Personality Disorder, but I met almost non of the criteria so they dropped it... or at least I thought they did. I hadn't even heard of HPD until recently, much less understood it!

Basically, I'm confused, so I thought I would ask those who knew better than I.

I suggest you ask your psychiatrist about this diagnosis. Maybe it meant you are on the border of being histrionic! I am surprised how often patients aren't told their diagnoses. I had to "guess" I was borderline, of all things!
Thanks for this!
