I have been hospitalized for mental health reasons at least 10+ times,
I can only remember being restrained twice... but that doesn't necessarily mean that I haven't been restrained more than that.... Those are just the times I remember

Five times. First being when I was 18 and the last being a couple months ago. I don't really have any stories because usually I just wake up in four-point wondering what the hell happened.

I was restraint when I ran away from it all and then they gave me toast & tea when I got into my pj's. ANd asked me if I wanted a cigarette they were terribly nice to me compared to the other unit i was in they held onto me when I ran away to get drunk and they strapped me into the car and said safe home now!! kinda bit annoying when they used a lazer gun at me when I ran from again,a diffrent home my heart I htought was failing me.

I am lucky to say I just witnessed other people in restraints - I only have been in seclusion twice (the longest was 7 days) - and they made it hell for me - to stop me from doing what I did again which did not work... It just traumatized me and shut me up - I will never go back to that place voluntarily ever again or seek help. And no, I could not do anything about that, since I was sectioned.

I had my legs restrained the other day during surgery. I think so I wouldn’t fall. It sure brought back memories though.

I had a psychotic episode while in a hospital for kidney failure. I knocked over some nurses while I was trying to get away they told me. I have no memory of it. I woke up chained to a hospital bed for three days until I was transferred to a mental hospital.

I was having a psychotic episode and was restrained during my first hospitalization. The staff held me down on the bed and injected me with Benadryl. I felt awful after that. I remember not being able to feel emotion. It was a very hectic time, mind-wise.

A blood pressure med caused me to keep falling over, so I was restrained several times while in inpatient over something I had no control over.

Yes I was restrained once in hospital . it was second time in hospital for mental health . I just couldn't break out if the depression I was in . Since I was a teen I would cut myself ,tho those cuts werent suicide attempts . no one knew for years as I would cut where my clothes covered and take care of cuts myself .
Hospital situation changed things . they forgot to take a key ring I had in my jacket ....I straightened it one day and went in bathroom to cut my arm . alot people then didn't understand and I didn't know how to explain why I would cut myself .
I used the straightened key ring to make cuts in my upper arm when all if a sudden it seemed a the make workers came into bathroom to see what I was doing . they found key ring I straightened . asked if I did anything . I said no .
The shirt sleeve covered the cuts .
They took me to TV room .
A few minutes later a couple of them came in to see my arms . they saw the cuts .
I don't know what happened next but they brought me to a room near the front desk ,I thought I was being punished for having feelings of depression and hating life ....my Dad punished me for those feelings when I was young.... I was always being punished ...this time they strapped my arms and legs to a gurney like bed in that Room and gave me some kind of shot that knocked me out for what seemed like a day .
They were doing their job I wasnt mad at them , I was always mad at myself tho .
I know I didn't hurt anyone but after they saw the cuts I was just so angry at myself .

While I was at the ER last week, a girl was restrained four point to the gurney. She kept thrashing against the bed and screaming out loud. I was sitting on the bed next to hers and I felt bad for her. She wasn't in a good state of mind obviously. Eventually they let her arms out of the restraints but kept her feet in the restraints. She settled down a little bit and went to sleep. Then they woke her up so she would talk to the psychiatrist. She didn't want to though. She just wanted to sleep but they talked her into talking to the psychiatrist. They said to her sooner or later you have to talk to the psychiatrist. Why not just get it over with. So she did. I got discharged while she was doing that. It was distressing just seeing someone in four point. I'm glad I have never been restrained myself.

Well I have never been restrained in the hospital but this last time that I went to the hospital, even though I went to an ER of a hospital that has a psych unit, they were full so I had to get transported to another psych hospital. Because I was in a code "5150" three day hold in CA they put me in foot and hand restraints to transport me in the ambulance. I thought it was ridiculous as I had been sitting in the waiting room of a busy and chaotic ER minding my own business for many hours. I didn't fight them. I just let them do it but I was very annoyed that they did it.

Never restrained but they did give me a shot of ativan to calm me down. I’ve been hospitalized around six times.

I was handcuffed. Like, regular metal handcuffs. I was very resentful. I was treated as though I had committed a robbery, not as though I was having a mental health crisis.

I was restrained in the ER before being admitted to the psychiatric ward. I wasn't in my right mind at all. I just remember believing that I was trapped and needed to escape. I checked to see if the coast was clear but right at that moment the psychiatrist came in the room. He accused me of faking my PTSD. He said something about having just caught me in my act, whatever that meant. Idk. But after he left I spiraled. I already hated myself and had a history of self harm. I felt worthless after he said that to me. I wasn't faking my disorder. I was eventually restrained by security guards for self harm. I was terrified. They came into the room in a group and picked me up off the floor and carried me back to my bed.

I can't believe I'm admitting this, but the one time the nurse tried to restrain me,, I hit her and she fell to the ground

ditto the security guard

I remember that night well. it was snowing heavily, and after they were both down I went out in the snow in my bare feet and stood their blocking the ambulances shouting all sorts of stuff

I mean.. I kind of regret it now, but not too much

I know I've mentioned this before in other posts. In retrospect, I suppose this counts as chemical restraint (not a traditional one), though I still have no idea why they did it. It was my first time going inpatient for bipolar depression. There were the usual depressive symptoms plus a certain amount of agitation. I was jittery, nervous and feeling like I was jumping out of my skin, but not hostile. Still, they felt it necessary to hand me a cup with a whopping dose of Klonopin (Ativan? Some sort of benzo.) and told me to take it with an intimation of "Or else." when I asked questions.

I came back to awareness nearly a full day later eating lunch. Wasn't in any four point restraints. The other patients said I hadn't caused a ruckus. I was agitated, sure, but not agitated enough to be drugged into another world because they just didn't want to deal with me. That's the only reason I can think of and that still doesn't answer the question why?

I've been restrained once more since I posted. I was pacing around, yelling at myself, the nurse called me "immature" and then they put me in four point and gave me a shot of haldol/ativan/benadryl.
