moving to another state...

does anyone know what to do if your moving to another state and you recieve ssi (income), medicaid-molina-star+plus-northstar(insurance), and lonestar ebt(food money)?
will i keep everything i have now, or will i have to re aply and will i be stuck without the aid for a period of time?
i live in texas but moving to around indianapolis indiana.

i'm not sure about the lonestar ebt(food money), but as far as medicaid and SSI goes, (and possibly food money, if you are getting it from social security or the SRS) it is a government program, meaning it is for the whole US not just by state. so if you move to one state to another, you will be fine. just let them know your new address.

I believe with the food money you need to reapply in the county you move to. At least I know that is what I had to do when I moved from one state to another. Best of luck.

i'm gonna buy lots of unperishables with the amount i have of foodstamps before i go then. hopefully that way it will last me until i can get food money.

I know that once I put in my application and they went through all the paperwork and saw that I qualified. I got my food stamps quickly. I think from first getting paperwork to getting the card for food stamps was 2 weeks (at most).

f you have most of your paperwork from the state you live in then you ought to have no problem getting the temporary aid that then puts you with programs. Ask and ask about new programs because often imo, state workers have case loads way into the 300 + so ask, ask , ask and Social Services. You may could even find these phone number before hand and call. anybody's town in anybody's state Social Sevices and see what happens. Good Luck and thanks for asking that question.... later Crew

Crew has a good point. If you know what county or area your moving to, I would call their and let them know you plan on moving their and you will need assistance. See if they can't mail out the applications to you. So when you get there all you have to do is have a meeting and hopefully get the assistance right away.

Based on my experience as a caseworker administering Food Stamps and AFDC/TANF...unless something major has changed in the last couple of years....

Food Stamps & TANF are federal programs, defined by state policy, but administered by the county you live in, so you will have to reapply in that county. Make sure you close the case in your current state and ask for a proof of closure with the effective date on it. Failure to do so could delay benefits, or cuase denial for having an active case elsewhere. Getting an advance appointment is a very good idea. Have all your paperwork together when you go - makes it much quicker and makes a happy caseworker. There is also usually an option of expidited benefits as long as you meet the income and resource criteria.

SSI & Medicaid should transfer as they are federally administrated.

edited to add....Cases can be transferred from county to county within a state with relative ease. There are some initiatives that have been floating around to make interstate transfers possible. but based on the last knowledge I had that hasn't happened yet.
