Back in January, I put in a claim to for unemployment insurance benefits. I did this to force my employer to respond as to why they were not giving me any assignments. They kept saying, "You are not terminated." I had refused a particular assignment and that made them mad.

Well, to my own astonishment, I was granted the benefits. The "claims adjudicator" at the unemployment insurance agency stated that he felt my refusing the assignment was for good reason and that my employer had not established any "misconduct" on my part. (The assignment was for me to go into a home where an employee of my company had been physically attacked by a family member.)

My former employer is appealing the decision. There will be a hearing in a few days. A different "claims adjudicator" will give an opinion. The original decision might be upheld . . . or not. I am very nervous.

The hearing is conducted by 3-way telephone call. Has anyone out there been through anything like this?

Yes, a previous employer asked me to do various questionable things, and when I couldn't became extremely abusive. I had to take her to a tribunal. In the end she folded a few days before the tribunal, and I got a financial settlement (five thousand pound). I also got my disability benefit (because I became very ill under the stress of the whole thing.)

Right now I've got a few financial things being challenged, and it's a huge stress. But I realise I shouldn't worry... things do work out for the best.

Good luck with your case, and try not to worry too much.
