I have not received any bills from my doctors since April. So, I called and found out why. Medicare is withholding payment to all doctors who submit claims via mail (or paper as they call it) until they switch to electronic submission. It will take up to one year to complete this process. During this time, doctors have the right to not accept patients who are on Medicare.
Gotta make me wonder what's really up. |

I believe it may be part of Medicare's new anti-fraud procedures they recently put in place.

Doctors can refuse patients with medicare or any particular insurance. When my Gyn doc retired I had a heck of a time finding a doc that would accept medicare.

I haven't looked it up to see, but I also wonder if it is part of the Affordable Care Act?

Just as an FYI, it took one of my provider's 6 weeks and another 8 weeks to get switched over from the initial paperwork to being able to submit their first electronic claims. Payment followed in the normal time thereafter. Since then claims and payment have been in good time.

It's part of the Administrative Simplification Compliance Act (ASCA) of nearly 10 years ago, not something new to doctors. It covers "too much" paper (dazzle them with bu&*sh@t).

Thanks Perna, I guess there must be a deadline now as two of my doctors will not have their claims paid for up to a year.
