Just wondering if we could get a sticky or something started for those who can't afford or have difficulty finding insurance or a t that they can afford to go see. I've asked this question before and have seen others do so. I've gotten help from others on here so far and hopefully have found a t I can afford but could we make it a permanant sticky for anyone needing help? It's a recession over here in the states after all, who can afford medical with the economy the way it is? Sheesh!

Unfortunately, psychotherapy is an elective service, like dental, vision, maternal and other such care; only those who need it, elect to buy the insurance so there is no way the insurance can work very often; if it costs $X an hour, the insurance company has to charge X plus their costs to manage the account.

Sometimes one is lucky and works at a job with a lot of employees and the job's health insurance includes some for psychotherapy and, since there are a lot of employees and not all of them are going to want therapy, their insurance dollars pay for their coworker's therapy. But still, that is why company insurance plans have limited numbers of visits; paying too much for one service won't leave enough to pay for other services for the other people; "Sorry, we can't pay for your heart bipass surgery, we spent the money on Perna's psychotherapy" :-)

One can go to an individual therapist in one's area and try to get them to lower their fees or barter for services: http://www.zurinstitute.com/bartertherapy.html but that would be up to the individual therapist. Sometimes large local clinics or governmental clinics can afford to offer therapy less expensively because of their size or tax base (like insurance, some people who can pay more do so and that lets them charge other people less) but one would have to find that out based on one's local community so we could not be of much help here on PC.
