i have no clue what to do anymore...

just before new years, my parents told me i was moving out. i had basically two options of where to move to! the biggest problem is that i have no income and haven't worked in over four years.

i applied last year for SSI/SS disability and was denied. i talked with a lawyer and was told that i will most likely keep getting denied because of my age. (i'm 26 years old, 27 in april) and now i find out that SSI and Social Security disability decisions are made based on 1 ruling! so that means i am pretty much screwed!!

plus, the lawyer told me that SS disability cases last about a year and a half (from application to a hearing result). holy crap. i don't have any fight left in me. my parents keep b***hing at cuz they think i'm too financially dependent on them. and i don't even have it in me to argue with them anymore.

so how the he** am i suppose to do this?
i need someone to fight for me - cuz i don't want to fight anymore...

Hey, jrae,

You sure you can't work at anything at all? The reason I ask is because to an outsider like me, who knows nothing else about you, that seems like the easiest way out, if it's possible. Any kind of paid employment at all.

If your psych situation really makes that impossible, have you talked to any of the counselors at your local county or state social work office? There are other people in your situation with whom those people have dealt and they have a pretty good idea what's possible and what's not.

Your folks don't sound particularly sympathetic. Is there a reason for that? Is there some kind of bad blood between you? Have they tried to help you find help? A job? Advice?

What education do you have? What job experience? What's your psych diagnosis? Are you in therapy now? All these things affect not only what outside experts will tell you but also what you'll hear here on PC.

Look forward to reading your reply! Take care!

I don't know about your situation or which lawyer you talked to but I received my approval for disability when I was 26. There are other people who can adovacate for you as well, my social worker helped me alot. Mostly social security looks at your mental history, were you ever commited to a hospital, did you seek psych help things like that. Try to deal with your local SS office whenever possible its easier to get someone on the phone or see in person. Be very prompt and organized with your paperwork when they request it or ask you to call them. Keep all records pertaining to your case. you can also appeal any ruling. My best advice is that you find people who really know the social security application process. The social workers for your county should be able to help you or at least steer you towards somebody like a non-profit organization. They might to able to help with your immediate financial needs as well. Hope this helps.
